Could have been an innocent but a convenient "mule" with plausible connections to the U.S.
If no obvious ties to the government, who paid for her air fare?, was her travel permit expedited?, did she have any unusual contact prior to leaving? are any of her relatives imprisoned or threatened by the CCP?, was she upset over prior difficulties with the US government?, ...just to name a few.
In any event, that China's government is a ruthless adversary is becoming more likely if not more obvious...
