The Rolling Stones haven’t had a number 1 hit probably since 1981’s “Start Me Up.” They’ve had scattershot singles since then– they were never a great singles chart band. They certainly have never had a number 1 hit on iTunes, a relatively new service. But this morning the nearly 60 year old Best Rock and Roll Band in the world is number with “Living in a Ghost Town.” The single was dropped yesterday to great acclaim. With a nod to the Specials’ “Ghost Town,” the song by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards couldn’t be more timely. Ironically. the group recorded the song last year. But recently, Mick says in his video, they realized it might have some impact now, The accompanying video is excellent, also. So interesting that our anthems for this moment are coming from the Stones and Jon Bon Jovi, older acts that have stood the test of time.

It’s not bad. I don’t know if I’d compare it to the songs on Flowers though.
Surprised Richards can find the ends of his fingers for anything other than another cigarette, or a “hit” on something stimulating— waste of space. So now this-— because “they need the money”? Ghost minds, more like. And as TRITE as Bob Dylan’s Chrysler commercial.
Better than anything Justin Beiber or Brittany SPears has ever done
Good showing by the Strolling Bones. Nice tune, not their best, but not bad.

They are definitely in the high risk demographic. And not just for age.
Jeez.
We deserve annihilation.
Having a “#1 Hit” in today’s entertainment world is not the same thing as having a #1 back in 1981. For one thing, there is no longer any particular radio station or music outlet that the majority of Americans listen to.
No matter what The Stones produce nowadays, it will probably be seen as ‘more legacy rock’.
“Better than anything Justin Beiber or Brittany SPears has ever done”
High praise indeed!
Jagger just had his 8th kid 4 years ago with his 30-something year old girlfriend. With his liabilities, he might need a cash cushion.

I guess these old bands know that timing is everything.
The only song that I ever really loved by the Stones was “Angie”. They did have some other songs that were good though.
I like it. Great to hear the Stones again with a new song.
For later.

No, it isn’t. It’s more an observation that pop music is so banal and idiotic that a group of 70 something-year-old men are still better.
Honestly, it should not be that way.
The old rock and rollers were oftentimes very good musicians. Some like the “Moody Blues” and “Emerson, Lake, and Palmer” were classically trained.
They may have been dopers but they were educated dopers who really worked at their craft.
I kind of like it. Be a good one around Halloween, bet it gets used for a few things then.
Mick is worth an estimated $400 million. He's not hurting for money. I know someone who has business dealings with him and says he's the happiest man in the world, because he gets to be Mick Jagger. Also a very nice guy who is very good at making you feel like you're not talking to, you know, Mick Jagger.
