There are three federally recognized Cherokee tribes: the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina, the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians (UKB) in Oklahoma, and the Cherokee Nation (CN) in Oklahoma.The population of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, by its own count according to its records, is 240,000. The Eastern Band of Cherokees' population is 16,000, and the population of the United Keetoowah band is 14,000 for a total of 270,000.
The Navajo Nation population totals 332,000.
