I wonder if there is a Chinese Studies department at OU. If so, maybe Kristine should ask that they be cut instead.

Partner, Ohio U. is taking the right path by elimating these classes. I get so upset when a University puts up these ridiculous classes that will not get the folks going to these classes a decent job.
The PHD folks teaching these classes will get a pretty good salary and that is plain wrong.

It has forced people to realize there are only 2 genders. Male and female and it kills males more.

I didn’t see that any whining from these other departments that offered to pony up the dough to fund these departments that were getting canned.
Guess they are not THAT important.

Ohio U. Lays Off Gender, Race Studies Professors
Breitbart ^ | May 5, 2020 | Tom Ciccotta
To: CheshireTheCat
The university has already been criticized for its decision to lay off faculty from the gender and race studies departments. Ohio University political science professor Kirstine Taylor wrote in a viral tweet that she was heart-sick over the universitys decision. Me too.
They should also be laying off the professors in the Arab/Muslim studies departments.
If you are going to lay off useless and counterproductive professors you should not play favorites.

The majority of the institutions operational costs are in its employees, which requires the university to make extremely difficult decisions regarding our workforce, including todays action, Leatherwood said. I have no idea how budget decisions are made at universities, but I do know that most major universities have endowment funds that run into the billions of dollars.
Do the state universities like OU have huge endowment funds that could allow them to keep these professors employed during this cut in state funding?
I dont know.
But I have to wonder, is OU management taking this opportunity to eliminate several staff positions that are of questionable educational value?
Is OU management using state budget cuts as cover to do some necessary pruning of troublesome employees. I have seen this behavior in my own company.
