This! They’re deferring the start of their careers for what? The likelihood of jobs being available will be small, with so many people trying to re-enter the workforce. The mortality rate for the age group is near zero, so what justifies holding off for a year?
“what justifies holding off for a year?”
Well, they COULD catch COVID!
They COULD get ill.
They COULD get seriously ill.
They COULD get admitted to the hospital.
It COULD all happen, you know.
The libs who run universities are refusing to reopen in the fall, and possibly all year. They want the students to pay full frieght, and in some cases more, for virtual classes.
I think it's a smart move for freshmen especially to say no thanks to that.
If the universities take a big enough financial hit, they will have to reopen. And maybe close down some of the useless crap like all the ethnic and gender studies programs.
The schools are not opening in a traditional way. Why pay private school tuition to have your kid learning on a PC in the basement.
Who’s going to teach them if they do go back to school this fall? Trump advises older faculty to stay home and out of the classroom. I work in a university library and have been told I should stand behind a sneeze guard like grocery store clerks do. Like that’s going to block the aerosols that are carrying the virus when infected people so much as open their mouths and talk.
The rules my university is putting together say I shouldn’t stop at any public place on my way to the university; that I should wear a clean face mask every day; that I should wash my hands repeatedly and wipe down surfaces with antiseptics, that I shouldn’t be in a office with more than a few people; that I shouldn’t stand closer than six feet from anyone, etc., etc.
Where do students eat their lunch? My university has one dining hall on campus. It’s packed with students for hours. No social distancing possible there. This just isn’t doable. Keep schools virtual until there’s a vaccine.
