And, with COVID-19 pandemic and the 2020 Presidential campaign in full swing, the amount of Christians posting and sharing conspiracy theory videos has attained critical mass. For many of us, it can be demoralizing to watch beloved friends, family members, and mentors fall deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of convoluted government plots and paranoid speculation.

Anybody can call themselves a “Christian”. So what? Does that get someone one shred of credibility? NOT ONE! Actions are far more forms of identity than some shrill idiot claiming to speak for an entire group of folks. Usually, when someone “tells me” they are a Christian and proceed to tell me “their viewpoint” I tune out after 5 seconds.

More, typical projection by a leftist trying to gaslight Christians into not believing that leftists ultimately want to murder all Christians.

. . . you are not paranoid if somebody is really out to get you. . . .

Call it past experience. . . failure to trust those who have proven themselves untrustworthy many times over. . . .

A better term is staurophobia, which is an irrational fear/hatred of the Cross, especially of Him Who it represents.

I did not coin the word; another poster did but it is a very good description of the pathology involved.

Just because you are paranoid does not mean that they are not still out to get you. It is a vicious cycle.

Again what is the conspiracy theory?

And why no rebuke of the Russia Russia Russia conspiracy theory?

All the presidents men was part of a trilogy of conspiracy movies by the director including the parallax view about political assassinations by a shady company.

And the Watergate break-in and cover-up were conspiracies, criminal conspiracies.

But yes the left uses the word conspiracy to impugn some things.

NOW certainly engaged in seditious conspiracy. This was from Kate Millett’s own mouth.

So did the militant racist Black Panthers and Weather Underground.

All three of these are part of the mainstream Democrats coalition these days.

Nassim Talib considers the COVID-19 pandemic a “White Swan” — an event that would eventually take place with great certainty given the innumerable warnings of a global pandemic by public health experts and epidemiologists for years. In a twist that should surprise no one, conspiracy theorists have actually rolled those warnings and preparation plans into proof that a conspiracy exists. Like I said, maddening.

The event of COVID-19 is not a surprise.

Our government’s response to the event is a surprise.

I do, in a way, agree with the author. Organized conspiracies are very rare.

Unorganized conspiracies are not so rare.

By unorganized conspiracies I mean; a large group of people with a common goal loosely held together by open lines of communication.

As an example, I give you the main stream media. They have a common goal to further advances toward a socialist government. When one outlet catches on to a sound bite that seems to further that goal the rest of the outlets pick it up and echo it across the country.

With the virus I see that there is a confluence of forces that have driven the response to COVID-19.

First is Human Nature. It is commonly understood that it is human nature to seek power, attention and praise.

When the news of a new viral outbreak broke in the news from China the president naturally sought the advice of the CDC. A doctor who had become accustom to getting attention from those in power during the days of the AIDS scare once again was receiving attention.

This doctor saw the opportunity to rise on the world scene and exercise power. Of course, he in his own mind would be protecting the people from wide spread death and suffering. (God save us from leaders with good intensions)

Meanwhile other people involved with designing computer models for pandemics also saw opportunities to sell their wares.

Next up are the hoards of Leftist with the common goal to prevent a second term for DJT.

These people seeing that a temporary cessation of commerce could bring on a recession push for more and more controls on who can and can not open for business.

Bring on the Governors.

State Governors accustomed to being largely ignored by the general population are suddenly being paid attention to by the press and the general population. Who but a few political junkies would watch their governor speak very day for two months?

This is heady stuff for attention junky politicians. They want this to continue regardless of the economic consequences (even if they don’t realize it themselves)

There you have it. Nothing but human nature and a loosely held group of people is all that is necessary to bring down the most powerful economy on the planet. An Unorganized Conspiracy of fools.

why single out “Christians” for ridicule?

Probably because it was posted on a section of the website for articles about Christianity, although it didn't seem like ridicule to me. Also, before ever talking about the susceptibility of some Christians to outrageous conspiracy theories he discusses three reasons all types of people adopt conspiracy theories.

And lefties, who have been railing about Russia for 3 years, don’t fall for these?

Of course there are people on the left who entertain conspiracy theories, which the author acknowleges when he says, "Liberal 'infotainment' bounces from one Trump-related outrage to the next with reckless abandon. Real-world social ills are capitalized upon and transformed into vapid social justice 'slacktivism' campaigns."

I like FreeRepublic for the variety of articles that get posted that I would never otherwise have seen. I used to enjoy the comments of other Freepers a lot more - they often included cogent remarks from people who knew a lot more about the subject matter than myself and often more than the author of the original article. I've also enjoyed those comments that were just witty or humorous. For some time now, though, I'm seeing so many bombastic remarks or remarks that demonstrate the commenter did not critically read the article that I often don't even go to the comments. Probably what I should have done here.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

There is a woman at the Houston Comical who seems agnostic at best who covers ‘Religion’ for that paper.

Geeze. Mr. High and Mighty.

Lots of people of all stripes are stupid. Singling out SOME Christian people for being stupid (as the headline does,) is stupid.

The NGOs that plotted the CV 19 response actively plotted and have been doing this for years. Event 201 was a dry run of exactly this.

Heads of health agencies and corporations met and publicly shared their discussion in November 2019.

This pandemic panic has been Bill Gates big bugaboo for at least five years. He didn’t care what virus he used as an excuse he was going to get his global shut down one way or another.
