Fierce protests have been raging in Minneapolis since an unarmed black man, George Floyd, died in police custody on Monday. Overnight, protesters broke into a police precinct in the city and set it on fire as the violence escalated. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has activated the state National Guard in a bid to restore order. Four officers involved in the incident have been fired but have not yet faced charges, with prosecutors stating they are still gathering evidence.
But one moment, in particular, caught the eye of the American public, a CNN reporter was arrested on live TV. Reporter Omar Jimenez has been arrested live on television in Minneapolis while reporting on widespread looting and riots throughout the city. He was live on-air speaking about the situation when police in riot gear arrested Mr. Jimenez, placing him in handcuffs. The police then led him to a waiting patrol car. Video below:

CNN gave a statement in which they explained why their reporter was arrested. Police told the crew they were being detained because they were told to move, and didn’t, one member of the CNN crew relayed to the network. “A CNN reporter and his production team were arrested this morning in Minneapolis for doing their jobs, despite identifying themselves — a clear violation of their First Amendment rights. The authorities in Minnesota, including the Governor, must release the three CNN employees immediately,” CNN said in a statement.
Of course, there were cries for racism from CNN even do a white cameraman was arrested too.
CNN’s Josh Campell, who also was in the area but not standing with the on-air crew, said he, too, was approached by police, but was allowed to remain. “I identified myself … they said, ‘OK, you’re permitted to be in the area,'” recounted Campbell, who is white. “I was treated much differently than (Jimenez) was.”

I think it's a stunt, me, me me. Reporters now want to be a part of the news. Especially news they love, like private property being destroyed by hoodlums.

Minneapolis may well emerge as the new Gary, Indiana: a thug-infested, broke, and dangerous city in which the police force operates in fear and weakness.
If I had a business in one of these areas and people in my neighborhood destroyed and looted it or allowed BLM to come in with out of towners to destroy/loot and stood by and did nothing, I’d take the insurance, tell the city where to get off, and never come back. Let it look like a war zone.
My guess is the CNN crew deliberately did something to get arrested and then payed dumb.

Keep in mind that most of the current Generals and Admirals got there under the prissy pants kenyan usurper. Four more years of a REAL President are needed to completely clear things up.

I witnessed a similar case of cops v news back in the 70s; detailed in a related thread.
A million years ago, I was FReeping at the Capital in Austin. A CNN reporter asked for an interview. I agreed. He then started to commandeer the sidewalk, telling people they could not use it.
I said, “What are you doing? This is a public sidewalk. Who do you think you are? You have no right to tell people they can’t walk here. This interview is over.”
A Reuters photographer was much nicer, and I was thrilled when the pic he took of my FReeping made the front page of several European Dailies.
Like I said, (maybe) rude and crude but he did save HIS troops from an ‘accident’.

Aside from a 2-day office-holder, the City of Minneapolis has had one Republican mayor since WWII, and that mayor left office in 1961.
