That's thirty-two years (hope my math's right) of straight derp. Of course derpish Generals will float to the top, and patriots will be purged. Some few patriots managed to fly under the radar and survive the purges (Rodgers/Flynn), but I assume they are few and far between.
It should be no surprise when our current Generals put in place pre-Trump turn out to be derps.
