I wonder who financed the study. The Lancet has a history of publishing un-reviewed flawed scientific studies on, among other topics, gun deaths, vaccination, and way back to scoffing at the use of antiseptics in surgery. Getting them to admit their error is like pulling teeth.

Apparently the “sponsor” was a shell company with three employees owned by the author, who is an Indian. He saw an opportunity to take advantage of Lancet’s bias and get himself some free publicity.
Lancet should not be taken seriously as a medical journal.

True, but they also published Lister's pioneering articles promoting antisepsis.
