I started watching a little football again last year. But this was the nail in the coffin. I understand why Brees did it - he wants a television gig after his career is over. But was pressured to apologize, IMHO. So sad.

I have slowly starting watching the lions... not football but the lions....if the NFL starts taking a knee again I am gone for good...

Brees announced a couple of months ago this year is his last. CBS Sports shortly after announced Brees will be their color commentator next season.
I agree with your assessment. He caved after the backlash by so many players. That endangered his future gig. So, he’s backpedaling as fast as he can. So far, those players have not accepted his apologies and are calling for him to retire now, as are several sports talking heads.
I would love to hear the announcer say would everyone please rise and players either rise or take a knee in total solidarity for our great flag of the United States.

Drew Brees is a coward. He failed to stand up for his beliefs.
Thanks for the update. The Saints really got screwed the last couple of playoffs, but now I just don't care anymore.
Brees was fighting for his career. It remains to be seen if he succeeded.
In a moment of unintentional wisdom, Kris Kristofferson wrote in Janis Joplin’s Hit cover of Me and Bobby Magee, “Freedom’s just another word for nothin’ left to lose”. When others control everything you have, you are not free. When they can take away your income, your healthcare, your speech, you are not free. When you have to bend your knee to pursue life, liberty and happiness, you are not free.
While Kris meant freedom from Bobby, it applies even more to freedom in general. When you refuse to surrender your freedoms, even if you lose your things and have “nothin’ left to lose”, at least you are free. Brees has conceded his freedom.

Brees lost most of my respect for him when he took the “verbal knee” to back down on his previous comments.
Great QB, but seems to be a petunia when confronted about his personal views.
