“Defund the police” has become the latest battle cry of liberals protesting George Floyd's death in demonstrations across the country. But it won’t be echoed by lawmakers in the halls of Congress.
Top Democrats are carefully - but forcefully - speaking out against growing calls from activists to defund police departments, an idea backed by prominent progressives to dismantle the system that has perpetuated the type of brutality seen in Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.
“I think it can be used as a distraction and that’s my concern,” Rep. Karen Bass, chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, told reporters on Monday. “I think the intent behind it is something that I support - the idea that communities need investments.”

“We’re keeping our eyes on the prize, and that needs to be the story. State and local will do what state and local needs to do,” Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), a member of the CBC, said Monday when asked about the defunding movement. “We are the Congress. What we’re doing here today is our role.”
Some had a blunter assessment.
“You can’t defund the police, that’s stupid, it’s crazy and anyone who talks about that is nuts,” said moderate Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.). “You have to have the police.”

No, I really think when they say “defund the police”, the intent behind it is to get rid of the police. It certainly “grease the palms of corrupt politicians”.
I wish Joe Biden would listen to the unhinged base and run on a "defund the police" platform. Easy lay-up.

We shouldn’t care if Biden supports it or not. If Trump is made to answer for any of his fringe supporters, Biden should too, and I’m not even sure that it’s much of a fringe in his case considering the number of people out in the streets demanding it.
I will stand with the defund movement. If Minn wants to defund protection, let the local good people handle the criminals as they see fit. And don’t expect any bailout to their hell hole. SSS

The Democrats are learning the hard way that the same suburban Karens who have been scolding their neighbors about social distancing and wearing masks even when you’re driving alone also have a mortal fear of black people in their neighborhoods.
The fat lady hasn’t sung yet. The Democrats will not be the final judge on the mess they and their media lapdogs have created. The American people will have the final say at the ballot box. The Democrats have spawned, over a considerable amount of time, a monster that they can no longer teach tricks of their choosing. The monster is pursuing tricks of its own choice.
If the police are refunded and gone, and I shoot a home intruder, who do I call?

Democrats never willingly defund anything of government at any level... even if it is useless or harmful.

The further they let these people push, the worse will be the reconciliation.
Left or right, extreme or moderate... people want some method of reasonably impartial enforcement of agreed civil code. If people think a few bad actors in the enforcement community warrent destruction of civil enforcement...
