Chicago GOP Chair condemns mayor's attack on police
Illinois Review ^ | June 12, 2020 | Stephen Boulton

Posted on 06/12/2020 4:18:47 PM PDT by PBRCat

Chicago GOP Chair Steve Boulton criticized Mayor Lori Lightfoot's press conference in which she attacked 13 Chicago police officers caught on video in Bobby Rush's office, reclining on sofas and eating popcorn in the early morning hours June 1st.

“We know who you are and will find you,” Lightfoot said after showing a video from Rush's office.

“Since the Mayor wasn’t on the streets during the riots, she has no idea what dedicated police officers went through to protect this city against rioting over the weekend. Officers went on 12 hour shifts with little sleep and frequently were simply deposited at various locations by buses with no food, no water or instructions."

Chicago officers had to use bathrooms of looted stores while standing for their entire patrols. After days of such duty, by June 1, when the video was taken, officers were exhausted.

"Like soldiers on a battlefield, some were actually allowed at points to rest and feed themselves when the fighting was elsewhere."

“To distract from the negligence of herself and Governor Pritzker in failing to put the National Guard and sufficient resources on the street, resulting in the looting of Loop businesses, Mayor Lightfoot used a video to throw officers under the bus for political points, when we all should be thanking them," Boulton said. "How many officers were stationed by the Mayor’s house and in her Logan Square neighborhood, doing nothing constructive to defend the other citizens of Chicago?

"We demand that the Mayor and Police Department allow the officers to speak in their own defense. The Mayor’s grotesque pandering must be rejected by all who know that police officers perform a vital public service at the risk of their own safety, preventing even greater violence during the riots. The Mayor should feel shame, not the officers.”

If a Rush staffer invited the officers in and Rush lied about it...

It’s obvious the police officers misunderstood Mayor Groot. When she said “stand down” they thought she said “lay down.”

I’ll have to go over to SecondCityCop and see what he has to say. This should be good. The police despise Groot and her administration.

The police at the Bobby Rush office were an assigned detail.

No food delivered. 12 hour shifts/no days off.

I would hope that some GOP congressmen/women would open their offices for them. Why go to a dem’s office when he’s done nothing for them?

We are conducting a food drive. Our goal is to send coffee and popcorn to Congressman Rush’s district office at 54th and Wentworth in Chicago.
