Weird things are happening — moderate Lefties are being attacked by the Anarchists and Occasional Cortex's. Now, the moderates are suddenly recognizing the value of FREE SPEECH!
A short letter was sent to Harper's Magazine and signed by scores of prominent Liberal/Leftist writers/journalists/pundits such as J. K. Rowling and Noam Chomsky. I summarize the key points of the letter below.
YouTube Commentator, Dr. Steve Turley, tells the story and analyzes the political fallout of Leftists battling each other on this issue.
FR's V K Lee turned me on to Dr. Steve a few days ago and I've been enjoying his short 10 to 15 minute Youtubes that I convert to MP3s [via YtMPE.cc] to hear while I'm exercising.
Dr. Steve usually has a 2 minute commercial for his own books, but you can easily skip over that to get to his enthusiastic and well-reasoned arguments. He's fast and efficient.
Here's my Summary and Editorial Comments to the Letter sent to Harper's Magazine:
A Letter on Justice and Open Debate, July 7, 2020
What's Happening
The Dreadful Things Happening (OMG!! Censorship of Moderate Leftists)
What's to be Done

Action in the Free Speech arena...
Even though they see the problem, in the end even the self-proclaimed “moderates” have no choice but to go down the same path of censorship and suppression precisely because their views and ideas can’t survive open debate.
But they will gladly continue to vote for those who advance censorship (i.e., the Democrat Party).
Well, let's see...
* Sit on their asses;
* Watch TV 24/7;
* Bitch about things on the Interwebs;
* Loudly wish for CW2/AmRev2.0/SHTF and do nothing;
* Not vote, let alone participate in the community at all;
Yeah, I WISH the Left would use the tactics of the "Radical Right:
Good point, hopespring. I agree. These new “guardians of free speech” say nothing about the lies of CNN! Are the noble enough to demand free speech for Deplorables? I see no mention of that in the letter.
Cancel Culture is just barely getting started.
In the world of sports while the Indians and Redskins may change their names, the Braves and Black Hawks are now saying they won’t.
Unchallenged anti Semitism? DeSean Jackson of the Eagles made some anti Semitic remarks.NFL Commissioner Goodell isn’t commenting but is allowing a Black National Anthem to be played.Might they eventually “cancel” the Star Spangled Banner?
New England Patriot Julian Edelman urged DeSean to meet with him.Edelman is Jewish; he wants to show DeSean the Holocaust Museum...then DeSean can show Julian a black history museum. They can learn from each other.
But cancel culture means pull down statues—even of abolitionists, ban the Confederate flag, ban TV episodes or movies
(supposedly MeTV wants to edit Happy Days episodes as a car racing poster on Richie’s wall has a confederate flag). Bands change their names. (After awhile the group Alabama stopped putting the Confederate flag on album covers and merchandise).
When do the book burnings begin?
Controversial TV shows:
If you like them—”change the channel if
it upsets you”
If you don’t— “the shows must be taken off the air.Nobody can see them.”
How about keeping history up there and learning from it?
Even Jello Biafra of punk’s Dead Kennedys had a bit on one of his spoken word albums
about people who want to...”Ban Everything!”
Maybe liberals are finally backing away from at least some cancel culture.
Hay, Hey
Ho’ Ho’
Tenure has got to go!

Add to that: Wring hands and furiously rummage around for some “evidence” that Jesus is going to “come soon” and fix what they didnt see fit to fix themselves.
They still have to maintain the facade while doing the opposite.
Dr. Frankenstein sees that he’s created a monster. Uh, too little, too late.
In a couple weeks the internet talk show
Stu’s Show (stusshow.com) will have
host Stu Shostak talking to TV critics/
historians Steve Beverly and Wes Hyatt.
The “cancel culture” debate will be
discussed. Shostak a big liberal, Beverly
seems conservative and I’m not sure about Hyatt.
July 22, 7pm Eastern 4 pm Pacific
“”... plus we’ll have a frank look at the “Cancel Culture” - why some current and classic movies and TV show episodes are being pulled due to the new civil rights revolution.”
“Nevertheless, we don’t want the tactics of the Orange Man and the Radical Right to infect the Left. “
A lie. The tactics described are the tactics of the left.
I love it as well: watching them trying to shoe-horn current events into fundamentalist-evangelical dogma.
Gather up all liberals.
Put them behind a wall.
Give them guns & knives.
They will kill themselves.
Raises our country IQ, morality, and all things good.
By eliminating liberals, helps evolution.

WEEI:” Edelman stirred the sports world in the right direction Thursday with his compassionate response, and offer to, DeSean Jackson, on the heels of his controversial posts this week. Jackson’s posts were anti-Semitic, upsetting people of all faiths nationwide. Athletes, former teammates, politicians, broadcasters...virtually everyone denounced the posts. But instead of shouting down Jackson and his message, Edelman extended an olive branch, offering to accompany Jackson to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in DC to help give the receiver some perspective. What Jackson chooses to do from here is his choice. But Edelman drew praise universally for his message. “
All levels of academia are about to collapse. The Left dropped a bomb on themselves.When the colleges fall, liberals will learn what an essential worker is.Students arent going to go into debt for sub par online classes.
