Lewis & Clark Trail road trip will include some Pony Express sites. Some FReeper lives in Marysville, KS, by Stop #1, if I recall. (Are you still here?)
It is interesting to look at old historical maps.
Explorers followed the old Indian trails...
Wagon Trains followed old explorer trails...
The Stage Coaches followed the old wagon train trails...
The Pony Express followed the old stage coach trails...
The Railroads followed the old pony express trails...
The telegraph lines followed the railroad lines...
Roads followed the telegraph lines...
Highways followed the roads...
Many areas of the Interstate Highway system follow the same corridor.
I visited a Pony Express location in the middle of nowhere northeast Kansas once several years ago. Interesting.
That’s that covered part of the RR there?? Jammed against the mountains? And then some folks built that!! With little equipment. All very cool.
We will be avoiding the BLM (Peaceful Protests) and I-70 closures near St. Charles/ and the PP near Great Falls MT. Thanks Democrats. You’ve got a really swell vision of the world.
