I find it interesting how the language seems to change. Instead of ‘slaves’, ‘enslaved people’ is now preferred. Going from one syllable to five shows progress! But somehow ‘slaveholders’ is still OK. Maybe ‘holders of enslaved people’ is still a bridge too far at the present time.
No one seems to give a rip about indentured servants. If anything, the holders of their indentures had less reason to care about their well-being, since they were free after their years of service, so feeding them poorly or working them to death made more economic sense.
The answer, of course is to change all street names to numbers. I’ve got it. Numbers in ‘languages of color’.
Why don’t they go back farther to a time when my ancestors were held as slaves by the Romans and the Vikings? Why does slavery START with blacks in America?
Oh the Horror.
Burn the town to the ground to atone for the sins.
