There is an electric car charging station, I think near Amarillo Texas, that is powered by a diesel engine. I’d post a picture but I can’t find it.

Top Gear did it years ago. Just not with a Tesla.

In Texas we call that the Tesla Range Extender.

Good. There is no substitute for petroleum products. They are the best, most concentrated source of energy.

You do what you gotta do. Quite clever actually, especially if you’re stuck out in the middle of nowhere. The guy videoing and running his mouth could’ve just taken a hike, though.

The area in which I work has a lot of expensive houses, and a lot of brand new Teslas in the driveways.
Seems like Tesla offers a choice of colours. Black, or black.

That generator might supply about 6 miles per 1 hour charge. I doubt it is even that much..

Well, they mainly run on oil products no matter how you charge them, so why not? I say mainly because I guess some could be powered by juice from hydroelectric dams.
Nice car. What is used to produce body parts, tires, seats, carpet, paint, wiring insulation, interior insulation, dashboard, roof liner, brake shoes, glass, fender wells, gravel guards, and more?

If it’s stupid and it works, it’s not stupid.
Tesla probably wouldn’t do it because it hurts their efforts to build more charging stations, but someone could make a purpose built Tesla/electric car range extender that would fit into half the space as that generator.

I took a BMW I3 for an overnight test drive a couple of years ago.I was *very* unimpressed...particularly given that it was BMW.It took about 12 hours on a household plug for me to get it back to the dealer.
I'll stick with my diesel...800 mile range (Interstate miles) on a tankful...and it can be refilled in about 4 minutes at about 40,000 stations nationwide.

Duh, All this guy needed to do was keep a horse in the trunk. When his Tesla ran out of juice just break out the horse, harness it to the front of the car and have it pull you to the nearest charging station. Or plan B just break out the horse, hop on and ride away, leaving the Tesla to fend for itself.

Not much difference between what’s in the video and what an oil burning power plant delivers to your outlet at home, when you plug in your Tesla there.

There are a few videos on YouTube of Tesla's being charged with generator's and one in which they used an 8 kilowatt generator carried by a Hummer to do so.🤭🙄

Onboard gas turbine (100 kW) results in a series-hybrid powertrain. The battery packs are charged from the grid as the normal course of action. The small turbine backs up the battery pack in the occurrence of depletion. The turbine runs either at full output or is turned off.
The axle motors are always driven from the battery pack. There are four-speed torque multiplying gearbox to match for load and speed requirements. This approach allowed fleet service vehicles operating a route to triple energy efficiency over typical diesel power trains.
