It occasionally becomes necessary for me to travel to Austin in order to use the airport, and I did so a couple of weeks ago. In order to avoid the typical Austin snarled freeways, my Uber driver took some side roads that went under a large freeway interchange near the airport. With its large expanse of concrete “roofs” this had become a “camping” area for the homeless, along with their tents, bags, grocery store carts and other debris.
There was another traffic snarl there, caused by fire trucks. There were a number of smoldering groups of grocery carts! I guess when there are no liquor or electronic gear stores to loot and burn, it’s still necessary to burn your neighbor’s grocery carts.
Austinites strive to “Keep Austin Weird”. They’re doing a very good job of it.
Keeping it weird would be nice. Making it a cesspool is what’s happening.
