I don’t trust her either. Her comments about abortion are disqualifying, with her saying the dispute is only about who pays for the abortion. Per the Judicial Philosophy section on Wikipedia.

President Trump’s conscience will prevent him from ever nominating Ted - the short bus errr list is the closest he will get.

I don’t see why it HAS to be a woman. Such thinking, disqualifying men, is no different than Biden’s thinking - a gender-centric discrimination.

If you truly don't see why it has to be a woman, you are either pretending to be naive or you are really stupid, dude.

RBG was a woman, women make up 52% of the electorate, women are more emotional than rational {aren't you married, have you ever dated a woman}, even pubbie women have that once a month freak show and they can't he'p it.

There is no need to be logical in this pick, because pubbie men will vote for Trump's pick, male or female, the reverse is not true.

Southerners and Evangelicals are roughly a third of the population, and there is only one Southerner (Thomas) and no Evangelicals.

We’re long overdue for a Southern Baptist or Evangelical Justice.

Amen. If he weren’t so old, I’d LOVE to see Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Tom Parker appointed to that position. If you’re not familiar with him, look him up.

I think it’s extremely important that the justice be replaced before the election for several reason. We already know that the Left plans to challenge the election and that, assuming Trump wins, there will be a plethora of lawsuits, most of which will make it to the Supreme Court. Even if Trump loses, presumably there will be plenty of lawsuits over fake ballots, harvested ballots and allegations of cheating. The last thing we, as a nation want, is a split court and throwing the election into the House as the final determiner. Would anyone on the Right trust Nancy Pelosi’s cadre to determine who the next president will be?

On top of all that, the Left has owned the court system for at least thirty years. They use the courts to make legislation that could never be made by elected officials. It’s time for that to be reversed.

The last reason is the economy. The Left actively tries to make people poor and dependent. Trump spent three years removing impediments to economic progress. (The magic wand Obama famously didn’t have.) Every change Trump made will be challenged or reversed. It’s important that these mostly unconstitutional regulations be reversed and stay gone. Only a full-on conservative court will allow that to happen.

She is strong on the 2nd Amendment and has written that non-violent felons should not be stripped of their 2A rights.

I think she will be a great SCOTUS justice.

It will be interesting to watch the Left demonize her for her Catholicism, esp Feinstein. Hispanics are already unhappy about the BLM, rioting, etc. Imagine how they will react to a full frontal assault on their religion.

Good choice? Bad Choice?

I have no idea. The thing is, though, I have no reason to believe that the Federalist Society has any clue either. They seem to have some abstract, idealized notion of an SC justice who treats the Constitution like it was handed down by God and not one word must ever be changed or disregarded. Such justices do not exist in the real world - the closest we get is a few lonely conservatives who fight a losing battle to preserve existing precedent while liberal justices legislate from the bench with the aid of Federalist Society-approved cowards like John Roberts.

I'd be far more comfortable with Ted Cruz as the nominee than any sitting judge - a right-wing politician like Cruz has never hidden how he'd rule on any issue.

Works for me.

Works very well for me too. But rumors are a given with everyone who has a pony in this race trying to psyche out everyone else.

I want someone the libs will scream bloody murder over, make up lies about etc. If they say anything even alluding to the fact that the pick is acceptable, I am suspicious.

Amy Barrett

Just one unanswered question...

Is she willing to walk through a political and personal fire storm to get the job?

Based on these quotes from her wiki page, she doesn’t fill me with optimism.

She also remarked that it was “very unlikely” the court would overturn the core of Roe v. Wade: “The fundamental element, that the woman has a right to choose abortion, will probably stand. The controversy right now is about funding. It’s a question of whether abortions will be publicly or privately funded.”[55][56]’

I don’t know why people want her, because she said she’s pro life?

********************************************

Yes, but that’s not the only reason. She does has an impressive resume, including clerking for Scalia.
However, the biggest thing is that she considers herself an originalist.

I would prefer Amy, but I think that the political calculus would suggest Barbara Lagoa. Get her before dead-eye Dick Blumenthal, Mazie, Coons, Whitehorses Ass, and a few others and watch them demolish the Hispanic vote they have left. Or they could just let her go. It’s a win-win.

All of them will be trying to take down white Catholic Amy. Again, she would be my preference, but there is this thing called an election.

Cruz would be the one pick that could possibly be confirmed by the end of October.

I don’t think a lot of people realize how time consuming the vetting process is to nominate a judge. You can’t just nominate and start the voting process, each Senator can call a meeting with the nominee for instance. FBI checks can lead to “delays”, Judicial committee hearings can be “delayed” by “procedures”.

Since Cruz is a Senator, he could bypass a lot of those delays but I think the powers that be want a female. Who knows. Virtue signaling and identity politics should give way to concrete results IMO.
