wjhg.com recently reported: (the bolding is mine)
Cancer screenings down nationwide during the COVID-19 pandemic
September 8, 2020
Call it just another symptom of the COVID-19 pandemic: Cancer screenings have gone down nationwide.
According to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, 35 percent of Americans had a cancer screening scheduled during the pandemic and missed it. Similarly, a survey this summer by the medical technology company Hologic found more than a quarter of women plan to either skip or delay their annual screenings this year. That includes mammograms, which can help catch breast cancer early when its easier to treat.
As a result, the National Cancer Institute estimates that there could be 10,000 additional breast and colorectal deaths over the next decade as a result of missed screenings and delayed diagnoses, and health experts are raising concerns.
There can be no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic is causing delayed diagnosis and suboptimal care for people with cancer, wrote Norman Ned Sharpless, director of the National Cancer Institute, in an editorial published earlier this year in the journal Science.
Cancers being missed now will still come to light eventually, but at a later stage, Sharpless wrote, and with worse prognoses.
And that guesstimate is probably a low-ball figure. Reality will probably be much worse.
Please don't, your list is a pain.

I've been annoyed by your damned lists for years.
Get over yourself, attention ho.
10,000 additional cases of cancer? But SOOOO worth it if the scam prevents Trump from winning the election. Right?
I’m a bad person, but ... naw ... I’m not going to say it. I’m not going to say who I hope are the victims of these additional cases.
I can help with the big words if they are a problem for you.
I get my heath care at Harvard Medical School's largest, and most famous, teaching affiliate. I'm followed there for two ongoing, potentially serious, conditions. For about 4 months I couldn't get an in person appointment for either of them...and they're not conditions that can be treated by "virtual" visits.I don't think I've been harmed in any way but there are surely many, many like me (perhaps even millions) who *have* been harmed.Seriously harmed!
With the left pulling crap like this, Qs prediction that one day these people will not be safe walking down the street will come true.
Instilling pain, suffering, fear, and death is worth it for the grand cause of Communism.
The ends justify the means.
I'm sure you help with many big things at the homeless shelter, guy.
Me, I'm all good. Spread your love where it's most needed.
I enjoy your posts. They always give me a good laugh.
I couldn't ask for anything more. Cheers.
My general physician is refusing to return to work in person, offering “telehealth” appointments only still.
All other doctors I’ve seen since March—physical therapist, gynecologist, oncologist, dermatologist, and dentist—are back in person.
I guess I’ll be shopping for a new general practictioner soon.
I'm a little worried about getting anything checked out that could land me in the hospital what with having medical staff take a knee for "Black Lives Matter" instead of "All Lives Matter"....
Despite the fact that my youngest son was diagnosed with cancerous polyps in early 2019, I am grateful that if it had to occur at all, that it happened then, and not this year, as he was able to have the required surgery, and uninterrupted chemo treatments that lasted until November 1st of last year. His last scan was clear, and I pray every day that it remains that way. I can’t imagine what people have had to go through during this lockdown, in order to get the proper treatment they needed. My niece supervises a lab in a large hospital in Rochester, NY, and said that people who needed medical treatment, like individuals with leukemia, were afraid of going to the hospital for help, some to the point where they ended up dying because of it. I blame the media mostly for it. As my niece said, the hospital was probably the safest place to go for treatment, because Covid cases were kept isolated in a specific area of the hospital, quarantined, and no one other than the staff who worked in that specific area had contact with them.
My endocrinologist, who doubles as my family doctor is seeing patients. I go once every six months with fasting bloodwork done before my appointment. I just saw him a couple of weeks ago. Also saw my eye doctor a couple of weeks before that. I’ve got a dental appointment for cleaning in early October. The only thing they wanted to know was if I’d been out of the country, or had plans to travel out of state before my appointment, or if I’d had any Covid symptoms. Went to Walgreen’s yesterday and got my yearly flu shot. They took my temperature prior to getting the shot. I’m 73.
Believe it or not, my Rheumatologist retired because he was terrified of having to use the new computer system put in place by the medical group he belonged to. I was flabbergasted one day during an appointment when he walked into the room, took one look at the darkened computer screen, and said: "Ohhh, that's not good." I asked him if he meant that the screen had shut off, and he said "Yes." I told him it mostly likely had gone to sleep, and all he had to do was hit one of the keys to wake it up. He was dumbfounded, and thanked me for having "fixed" his computer. I asked him if he didn't use a computer at home, and he said, Yes, that he had one, but had never known that computers go to sleep. Now I'd been seeing this doctor for a good many years, and had I known he was that dumb from the beginning, I never would have gone to him. It was a blessing therefore, that he retired.
Well, one could state that 10k over the long haul is better than 200k now.
But yeah, this really stinks.
I hate it enough myself as Im struggling with my health right now trying to find a solution. Its screwed up everything.
Jvette, fyi!
