It was, I used to live a couple blocks south of the Venice pier. But today/then is in no way comparative. We were visiting a few years ago, the whole area is teetering on verge of apocalypse.

A friend remastered their first self-titled and their last, LA Woman, albums and gifted me CDR copies burned direct from the master tapes.
Fun fact...
Morrison was a HUGE fan of Sinatra and, when they walked into Sunset Sound studios to record their first album, Jim recognized the German microphone used for vocals as the same vocal mic Sinatra favored.

Back about 89 90 it started headed down hill.Pretty girls used to be everywhere at venice beach and that slowed way down starting about that time.
