So I'm having another one of those debates on homosexuality, this time the issue is the views of African-Americans towards homosexuality. I remember reading some years ago that statically African-Americans hold a more negative view of homosexuality than do whites, a point I decided to raise once the other guy decided to compare the lack of gay "marriage" to slavery or Jim Crow. He pointed out that gallup had stated otherwise, that close to 70% voted to maintain same-sex "marriage" in Nevada recently. I can't remember where I read the original study but I'm just wondering if it is still the case that blacks hold a hostile attitude towards homosexuality or if my info has become out of date since then? Or whether its differs by state?

The last studies I saw said that African Americans are very anti-LGBT and were one of the biggest supporters of Prop 8 in California and you can also see that it must still be the case given all the press 2 weeks after Floyd this summer about how black transgender women are always under threat (hint it’s not by white guys)
But yeah - any actual studies and statistics are buried, if allowed at all.

They are mostly Christians. For the most part they aint down with homosexuality. I don’t have stats to back that up, just my own experience from knowing plenty of back people.

in prison settings they divide the homo settings up between pitchers and catchers, catchers being gay/bi, pitchers being macho and user/pimpoid bros.

The original issue we were debating was same-sex “marriage”. I am opposed to the redefinition of marriage. He went on to compare the lack of same-sex “marriage” to Jim Crow and I merely pointed out that African-Americans have a more hostile view of homosexuality as well as the fact that 70% of Blacks voted for Prop 8 back in 2008 so its quite insulting to suggest that they’re somehow on par with segregationists.
Maybe you can ask Andrew Gillum? It’s something he knows a lot about.
Well, I can tell you from 25 years experience in NY State’s prison system, that most black inmates hated homos, and openly made fun of any black homo. I retired in 2003, so if there’s been any change in their attitude since then, I wouldn’t know about it.

Religious blacks are at 39% acceptance, with Evangelical whites at 29%. White Democrats, Liberals and nonreligious are more likely to accept gay marriage. I'm just going to guess that acceptance of gay marriage is reflective of acceptance of gays in general.
Also to be noted, the majority of LGBT persons (40%) are bisexual women and live with/marry an opposite sex partner. This would create a false sense of ‘lack of gay marriage’. LGBT identity is most often claimed within the age groups of 18-36 and among those making less than $36K a year. In the age group 37-51, LGBT identity falls by half. (I'm going to guess again this has to do with the bisexual women - who, married to an opposite sex partner, have children and settles into monogamous family life, the chapter on sexual adventure quietly turned). The tie, of having children together, is a stronger bond than between gay men who, as they age, tend to make provisions in their ‘monogamous’ relationships for continued outside sexual activity that produces no issue and is not conducive to marriage.
