Hitler began his anti-Jewish atrocities well before the war. There were millions Jews in Germany and Austria in the thirties after Hitler was in power. Thousands were already on their way to the death camps during the time. There were in excess of 10,000 concentration camps in Germany and Poland. Most Germans knew the camps existed near their cities, but said nothing for fear of the Gestapo
