Myanmar’s military has seized power and declared a state of emergency for one year following days of escalating tension over the result of November’s parliamentary elections.

Aung San Suu Kyi, the country’s de facto leader, President Win Myint, and other senior members of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party have been detained in the capital, Naypyidaw, on Monday.

A video broadcast on military-owned television said power was handed to Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, commander-in-chief of the armed forces, citing “huge irregularities” in November’s vote.

The power grab came as Parliament – in which the military is given 25 percent of the seats – was set to open in Myanmar.

Joe Biden has threatened to resume sanctions on Myanmar following the military coup and the suspension of democracy and called for international solidarity in confronting the country’s generals.

“The United States removed sanctions on Burma over the past decade based on progress toward democracy. The reversal of that progress will necessitate an immediate review of our sanction laws and authorities, followed by appropriate action,” Biden said in a written statement addressing the first foreign policy crisis of his presidency.

But unlike President Trump Biden doesn’t have the courage to stand up to China at the grand stage, as MailOnline reported “Chaos” erupted in the White House as Biden administration officials argue over whether to call #Myanmar military takeover a “coup” over fears they will “anger China and be forced to withdraw foreign aid”.

Joe Biden has condemned the takeover but has so far refrained from calling it a coup.

The good news is the CCP needs us as a prime customer, trainer of new engineers/scientists, as a pipeline for new technology, as a trading partner and as an ally.

If we are not a military threat to them and can help fund & cover/hide their aggression around the world. They and Susan Rice will just control us not bomb us.
