Why Boeing’s F-15EX Could Be One Dangerous Fighter
19FortyFive ^ | 2/3/2021 | Caleb Larson

The Air Force envisions the F-15EX as a sort of weapon truck, able to carry large munitions that the F-35 cannot. The F-35 can carry less than 6,000 pounds of munitions internally, whereas the F-15EX can carry almost 30,000 pounds of munitions on its external pylons. On battlefields with modern air defenses, the F-35 could stealthily collect targeting data and relay it to an F-15EX, which could then utilize advanced low-observable or hypersonic munitions to eliminate enemy targets.

These planes do have some serious potential. If they work in tandem with F-35s they could be quite powerful.

Let's compare apples to apples, shall we? The F-35 also has external pylons, and can carry a total 18,000 lbs. Not too shabby for a single engine aircraft.

By comparison the F-16, the aircraft that the F-35 was designed to replace, can carry a total of 17,000 lbs.

But, do they have a training program for trannies?
And, will the aircraft go into a safe mode if the pilot is having a meltdown, or is triggered by something offensive from their adversary.

These are the things that are important in Biden’s America.

Impressive, that's like a half size but very fast B52.

It’s dangerous because it’s not the F-35.

"By comparison the F-16, the aircraft that the F-35 was designed to replace, can carry a total of 17,000 lbs."

And by further comparison, the payload of a B-29 Superfortress was 16,000 lbs.

If the 15EX is going to be used as a bomb truck, why would it need a pilot?

The F-35 could control it like a drone. Imagine an F-35 with 3 of the EX's in attendance. Now you have one guy calling the shots as needed, and the weaponry to do it without risking another pilot or the time lag between call out and delivery.

Terrible idea, you can’t replace human interaction in these cases. Three brains are better than one. One can only have so much situational awareness despite any and all automation and sensors etc. I could go on with possible examples and scenarios, but that’s the gist.

Agreed...bring back the F-4! Probably the meanest looking plane in Vietnam.

They would need my AI to do it and they have really screwed up that process. Besides, it is way, way too much fun to fly that jet.

Building a model f105 thunder chief. It could carry 14000 lbs at mach 2. Not too many were made and about half didn’t survive vietnam. But they “only” cost about 5.6 million each in 1960...
