There goes the gig employment market.

It’s killing those gig workers forced to deliver for one of the delivery services, like DoorDash, Amazon, GrubHub and InstaCart as there are very, very few jobs hiring outside of this. Mostly part-time minimum wage fast-food, retail or warehouse distribution jobs.

I’m surprised they haven’t gone full RFID-checkout yet.

Especially since IBM was so proud of it over a decade ago:

Many minimum-wage earners are going to be very disappointed with how little of the increase they will actually get to spend.

They will either lose their job & all earned income — or will lose a large chunk of the increased wage to tax increases, and subsidy decreases.

Higher wages = increased income taxes. The federal government will take about 13% of the wage increase.

Then, there are the ‘claw-backs’ on various subsidies paid to low-income people. Social housing charges about 30% of income for rent. Obamacare subsidies drop by about 9.8% of each additional dollar earned. The same applies to all other means-tested government subsidies — whether for heat and electricity, child care, etc. Considering all increased taxes and reduced subsidies, over half of the increased wages will never see the inside of many minimum-wage earners’ pockets.

Governments, OTOH, will save a bundle.

[Democrats have to be the dumbest, dumbest people on God’s earth.]

I’ve been saying similar for some time now.

All you have to do is give them a stupid, vapid slogan like “hope and change” and “yes we can” and they’re off to the races like a brainwashed cult of zombies.

The DNC knows how easily they are fooled. And counts on it.

Minimum wage mostly helps those who cannot live on what their efforts are worth - mainly the lazy who feel entitled to the fruits of the labor or others - today’s typical Dem.

Checkers also build a rapport with many of their customers. I was a grocery check over 50 years ago, and we had repeat customers that would go to the check stand where they liked the checker.

IF I am buying $200-300 worth of groceries, I can tie up a self checkout stand for an hour while I scan & bag everything I have there. NO room for a conveyor belt for a cart FULL-—I have to try I stack scanned items to get bagged while
there is NO SPACE to do so. IF 4-6 SMALL items-—OK, but when I have a cart full-—that SMALL space doesn’t cut it.

I guess all American IT and STEM workers fall into this category, as lazy and entitled. Nearly 30 years experience in this field, and the only jobs available to me are manual labor part-time, minimum wage jobs with no benefits as Indians have me locked out of my own career field.

Republicans and Democrats alike love that Foreign Cheap Indian Labor Express. The formerly middle class American white collar worker, not so much.

All true.

Self-checkout is also forcing Americans to shop the European way. One or two small bags of groceries only at a time. (Most Europeans bike or walk to a local store, so they can only buy 2 to 3 days worth (for a single person) at a time), at least that’s what I remember.

There’s always the exception to the rule - truth is, minimum wage entitles the lazy and inept to more pay than they’re worth - even though there are those who have enough on the ball to be worth it or more.

The fix isn’t to raise the minimum wage, it’s to stop the influx of foreigners when Americans are out of work - and can do the job.

Never gonna happen. Biden and the entire US House/ Senate all agree that Americans are piles of whale shit and that Indians, Communist Chinese and Mexicans are a much superior workforce.

Only Trump tried to stop this. You seen the results.

The Democrats will never go along with a $15.00/hr minimum wage. Why? Because a couple filing jointly both making that much, $30.00/hr, would mean a household income of $60,000/yr. A household making $60,000/yr would no longer qualify for ANY GOVERNMENT BENEFITS!!!

$15.00/hr would ruin the Cloward-Piven strategy.

minimum wage entitles the lazy and inept

Yes, this is how we create more conservative voters by calling the masses lazy and inept.

The USA is in desperate need of wage inflation. We need wage inflation. We want wage inflation. I make the same in nominal dollars as I made in the late 1990’s. I am not alone..

There is no correlation between the min. wage and the push for automation. Min. wage is at an historical nadir and there is a push for automation now. Explain that???

Never said it was gonna happen, just said it’s the only valid “fix”.
