Joe McBumbles-Biden could not handle the weight of responsibility. He would be likely to start bad mouthing the Prime Minister of Japan, if that Prime Minister didn’t laugh

I know what he meant, and he was trying to show recognition for Japanese excellence same as we do for the Americans.
But Proper Phrasing Matters, Joe, especially with countries like the Japanese. Oy!

Actually, it makes sense that leaders who cannot be counted on to maintain the big lie that, “Joe is fine”, aren’t going to get to meet with him.
Imagine if the PM left and world reports started surfacing that he says Joe has lost his mind.

Generally using Vice president in this situation would be considered diplomatic snub.
So, either we do not like Japan any more (maybe we prefer North Korea and China), or Biden is not able to do it.
