I have a feeling the judge knew what was going on in the jurors minds re: intimidation when he said that. INHO, that was very unusual for a judge to say something like that.
In realty, it needed a change of venue to somewhere at least 100 miles outside the MPLS/St Paul metro area to begin with.
Maybe maybe not. We don’t and worn every know. Cops should have a higher burden of proof due to their position but too many right leaning folks just fold like wheat.

Why? Have you been following the testimony? Only an omniscient being could have escaped this situation. But, under the rules he was operating within, and in the face of the crowd he was facing, it becomes pretty clear this tragedy was unavoidable. And, we have to face the fact that the man was dead before the police even showed up. The jury instructions didn’t even cover this aspect leaving any police officer liable for criminal punishment even if the criminal offs themselves in front of them, which Floyd basically did.
from what I watched of the trial, he was certainty not guilty of Murder 2 or 3. Ag assault seems like a reasonable charge considering the medical examiners report.

So why did this judge not sequester the jury. And why make statement no place in MN would not know about the case? Why not error on the side of caution?

The problem is the autopsy report said it was a homicide. Do you homicide yourself. As the defense expert witness stated it should not have been a homicide as too many conflicting possible causes of death.
If it’s more than a long weekend then the sentence is too long.
How in God’s name do you have 15 days of testimony and hundreds of exhibits, yet not one question. Only 12.5 hours of deliberations? They just wanted to go home.
Not a legal eagle by any means but isn’t that what an appeals court will look at? The judge’s actions, comments as well?
I didn’t like that judge from the beginning, my gut feeling is he had his marching orders.
