It’s a completely pagan worldview without Christ’s mercy or forgiveness or the recognition of the value of the human person. Nietzsche would have loved it.

I’m not at all sure that George RR Martin sees it that way (I think he has issues) but I think this is what our Middle Ages would have looked like if there was not any Christian influence. No morality, no fear of judgment, not respect for mercy. Honor is not entirely absent, but almost entirely so. Without Christ, the world would be even darker than it is.
Indeed, there are almost no likeable characters in the entirety of GoT. I almost always hate movies/shows where everybody is self centered and no one is likeable. It is a testament to the writing and production value that I love GoT despite this. It a very rare and unique thing.
