There was an impetus for all this to be occurring suddenly after Dr. Fallacy had pushed the natural causes myth. He was leading the effort to suppress the truth about the ChiCom Virus in the Wuhan lab getting out.
This is the US DIA and they kept this under wraps from FIB and their sister external agency.
They have tapped the highest counterintelligence head of Communist China. This is a monumental defection, the biggest ever there.
There’s going to be severe repercussions.

RedState’s sources say that Chinese officials did demand that the United States return Dong, but Blinken didn’t exactly refuse; at that time Blinken wasn’t aware that Dong was with the US government, the sources say, and told China that the US didn’t have Dong.
It’s only in the last three to four weeks that anyone outside DIA knew about the defector, according to RedState’s sources. Prior to that time, DIA was vetting the information provided and confronting Langley officials with what they’d learned without divulging the source.

It could be disinformation to try to reduce the impact of other CCP defectors, like the one last year. Time will tell.
Could be a smoke machine diversion to provide cover for the eventual “unexplained death” of the COVID informant.
I think the DIA is correct. They likely know of the compromised people at the CIA/FBI/DOJ so military intelligence can protect him much better.
A U.S. official familiar with intelligence reports said the reported defection is false.
Two other government sources said they do not believe Mr. Dong defected, but declined to say whether U.S. intelligence agencies may have a high-level defector from one of the Chinese spy services.
