I’ve gotten them from time to time for years. No other symptoms, no apparent triggers, other than lack of sleep, perhaps. They look something like the images here:

but mine are much more colorful and grand. Bright, twisting, kaleidoscopic. They’d be completely benign, except that they interfere with my vision for a time. Aspirin help. Doctors tell me “no worries”.
the first time it happened I was in my 20s and sitting in a business meeting in Spain. I just sat their silently blinded as the meeting proceeded, confused and concerned. By the time for the bio break it had passed and I mentioned to my boss in passing that I'd gone blind for most of the meeting so far. He was horrified and told me to go get it checked. But I was a young single man in my 20s, I didn't go to doctors so nah, I just figured I'd wait and see what happened. Amazing I survived my 20s, I think i f I accidentally drank a glass of bleach I'd have said 'Should I call an ambulance?? Nah, let's wait it out and see if it gets better"
Those ARE tame. Mine are flashing bars of colored lights, shaped in a curved zig-zag pattern that enlarges as it slides off to the side and disappears over the course of about 25 mins. I’ve had them in both eyes, and several times had a new one begin before the first was over. It makes driving a nightmare; the only thing to do is find someplace to pull over until it’s gone.
The first one sent me to the hospital fearing a stroke. The doctor told me to take up to four ibuprofen (fewer if I couldn’t keep them down). It helps prevent pain.
My auras are quite colorful; I enjoy them along with some Pink Floyd. ;)
