I think Trump picked Barr because Barr could easily be confirmed by the Senate, after the “controversy” of firing Sessions. I thought it was a good pick at the time, but I see now how it was a mistake. But I can’t think of anyone else that Trump could have picked who could have been confirmed.
Trump should have kept the acting interim AG Whitaker.
That was a big problem with all of Trump’s picks...he had to get somebody who was anti-Trump enough to be confirmed, which sort of undoes the whole thing.
Because Mitch and his bitches would not confirm anyone who would side with the citizens and the rule of law.
Tailoring his picks for McConnell’s approval destroyed Trump and MAGA. He did not have to. Trump did ONE thing right when dealing with the Uniparty (R). Trump told McConnell to pound sand with his appointment of acting Director of National Intelligence, Richard Grenell. McConnell wouldn’t even give John Ratcliffe a hearing to be nominated when Trump sent his name up. After Grenell started releasing Uniparty state secrets and generally kicking DS behind, McConnell couldn’t get Ratcliffe confirmed quickly enough. Trump knew what a DS rat’s nest McConnell controlled and should have employed this tactic again and again. McConnell could not have stopped Trump from doing it and would have had to play ball with MAGA.
