Probe comes after newspaper report of improper chain of custody documentation, DeKalb County election chief taking leave.
e Georgia Secretary of State's office has opened an investigation into the handling of drop box ballots last November in one of the state's Democratic strongholds following a media report that there were problems with chain of custody documentation in DeKalb County.
The probe, confirmed in a statement to Just the News, comes at a tumultuous time for DeKalb County, whose elections director was placed on an extended leave of absence two weeks ago. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's office said the probe is ongoing and the county is cooperating.
"The Secretary of State's office has opened an investigation into the drop box chain of custody documentation for Dekalb County," Raffensperger's office told Just the News. "The investigation includes not only whether Dekalb County properly complied with the documentation required by the State Election Board but also whether the actual procedures used by Dekalb adequately protected chain of custody for ballots returned to drop boxes."
A spokesman for DeKalb County did not immediately return calls or respond to emails from Just the News last week or Monday seeking comment.
The announcement of the probe comes less than a month after the Georgia Star news site reported that 43,907 of the 61,731 absentee ballots deposited in drop boxes in the November 2020 presidential election in DeKalb County — 72% —were counted in official tallies certified by the county and the state though they had not met the chain of custody requirements set by the Georgia State Election Board on July 1, 2020.

One year later.
At this point, I would be most interested in a state like GA actively re-designing its drop boxes to ensure future chain of custody confidence. Plenty of additional steps could also be taken now, for 2022.
Constantly looking back at 2020 so that we can come to the “bold conclusion” that Trump was “defeated” in a questionable election really gets us nowhere.
What are we doing — now — to make sure that 2022 is more honest?
DeKalb only, eh?
Rat’s (and Kemp) must be confident that they have had enough time to hide all the evidence up there, and don’t want Fulton opened up at all.
Cobb County is now under racist democrat local control, so start to expect it to become corrupt as well.
Drop boxes have inherent security issues. You do not know who is dropping off the ballots. It essentially allows ballot harvesting by anyone, in many creative ways.
There are reasons people went to polling places, primarily for the security of the vote.
Drop boxes should be eliminated completely.
Dekalb was not the center of the action. It was Fulton.
Oh, so this is an official cover-up operation. Gather the evidence, keep the investigation going for the next year, and, because it is “under investigation” the evidence cannot be released or discussed. In other words, the investigation is the process to run out the clock until after the next election cycle.
I don’t disagree.
But I think the point should be — don’t look back at 2020 to see how ballot boxes went wrong. Instead, look forward to 2022 and swear to avoid drop boxes in the first place. And also think of more improvements so that 2022 can be trusted.
I think we spend 100% of our effort looking back. That won’t help.
They’re both an issue on this.
Concur. So, of course, Rat’s answer is “I will let you audit DeKalb instead!”
Where’s the alleged video of the 250 DNC ops that dumped votes into the boxes?
Another probe.
Surely this time something will come from it.
Pffft...
Millions of ballots mailed out unrequested, unverified, untracked just floating around out there should have *always* - ALWAYS been the focus of concerns raised about the election. That actually happened and is provable.
Original story was several counties were shown to have had ballots harvested during the election and dumped in the ballot boxes. True the Vote got the cell phone pings in the area in question and tied them to phones, which were then tied to cell towers, and then the phones tracked from ballot box to ballot box.
Per ‘True the Vote, with the FBI. Now the pressure is being applied for the FBI to do something about it as they’ve previously not done - else it is going to be made public (which will increase the outrage, but make prosecution problematic).
Where did Ruby Freeman go?
