Would a U.S. Debt Default Mean No Social Security Checks?
19FortyFive ^ | 10/6/2021 | Stephen Silver

Posted on 10/06/2021 4:19:10 PM PDT by Onthebrink

“A default could potentially — but not necessarily — delay the payment of Social Security benefits, which reach about 65 million Americans in some form,” the Times said. “It could also delay payments to government contractors, including hospitals that accept patients who use Medicare and Medicaid benefits.”

A default would also have effects that trickle down further, including to state-run programs, as well as the expanded child tax credit. The next scheduled payment from that is October 15, which is before the possible default date, although another payment is due November 15.

So why didn’t they think about that BEFORE they spent the money?

No. You would get your check. The liars in Congress want you to believe that. Social security is a priority program and gets paid first even in a shutdown. Military is somewhat the same way. Also Medicare.

If they can’t write debt then they will have to stop the payments on something. If not social security then it will be something else.

With the demise of the Soviet Union, there was only ONE program, the retirement pension. This was picked up by the satellite countries.........................

We could only WISH SS were ended, as that would end the deficit at the same time!

The RATS always do this. They want more money, they have the media scare old people into thinking their checks won’t come and it is always the republicans fault. LOL

The Repubes are too lazy and cowardly to call press conferences and things to set the record straight.

Nope. Next question.

There would be no “default”. Obligations are always paid first with Servicing the Debt as number one. SS, Medicare and Government Pensions come next.

The Debt Ceiling being hit has no effect of Tax Revenues flowing into Government Coffers. Just more scare tactics.

Any and Every thing that interferes with a paycheck FICA deduction robs SS.

I have been anticipating the bubble to stop bouncing from the Trump economy.

IIRC, we'll get a raise in 2022, the first in many years.

Even if all the illegals get jobs, they're not going to pay FICA... AND they'll take my sons' jobs.

F zhou bidet !

What does this mean? We can’t afford the expensive unproductive $5 TRILLION the crazy infantile Democrats want to spend.

“Would a U.S. Debt Default Mean No Social Security Checks?”

Would no social security checks mean hanging everyone at the crappy 19fortyfive website? Why not? We can create clickbait, too.

Boomers had a great run. They were born into the greatest and richest country in the world, at peace, mostly protected from chaos, with social stability, where most disease was conquered and society enjoyed all kinds of entertainments and fantastic improvements in the levels of material things.

Will fate allow all of them to live their entire lives in such a way?

SS money is already there and is not tied to the debt ceiling.

What may become an issue is that the govt. people needed to send out the checks or transfer the money into recipients accounts may be placed on unpaid leave.

well that’s what you get when you pay a child tax credit out in cash quarterly.

As for the govt paying their bills on time, since when has any vendor received a check in less than 6 months?
