I work professionally in transportation infrastructure and I could only name four Secretaries of Transportation. In “modern memory,” they are invariably nothing more than useless bureaucrats who are barely employable outside of politics.
If I was the President of the United States I would have a set of minimum qualifications for the Secretary of Transportation. He would have to be a civil engineer licensed in multiple states, and with a minimum of 25 years experience in managing major infrastructure projects.
Putting a liberal arts doofus in charge of the U.S. Department of Transportation is like hiring an interior decorator as the Attorney General.
