"Jason Todd walked into Friends Steakhouse in Clanton where his band was playing the final set one summer night three years ago. Tonya Anderson, his wife, stood outside in the parking lot, drunk, demanding to drive herself home. Todd told her she could not drive, and he would take her shortly after he paid his tab.
“I’m not mad at you” he repeated. Belligerent, she threatened to leave. “Fine, walk home,” said Todd, believing she would not.
Anderson began walking, as spelled out in court records and police reports, and did not make it far before being struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle.
“I loved my wife. Still do, and always will,” Todd, 42, told investigators when they accused him of causing his wife’s death, according to the lawsuit. ..."

In life you can do the 100% right thing and still get ****ed. And after reading about his exchanges with police, remember please that they are allowed to lie to you. Speak to them through an attorney!
I wonder who has got it in for him.
There is no justification for his treatment by LE.
Was his band THAT bad?
Well he did have to pay his own tab after all.
This is vs, ge did not kill his wife.
Guys, yet another reason for the mountain of reasons, not to get married. The state will pull this crap on you. The state refards married men as automatic evil adversaries at worst, atm’s for them and their ex’s at best.
She’s dead, Jim. /s
Someone in law enforcement is getting an erection out of this.
Read the whole article. This sucks but Clanton Alabama is a Boss Hogg town.
There is no such thing as an “accident” anymore. “Somebody” has to be charged period.
After giving her space, he should have made sure she was OK in her sobering walk home, but she choose to get drunk and not to take the ride. If a man had refused to give her a ride because she was not vaxxed or even just not masked they might would not have charged him.
Holy cow, what stunning police abuse. I mean, the man who hit and killed the wife even came in the following day to say he hit a “deer”. The police had complete tunnel vision or simply had it in for the husband, because they didn’t even take samples of the blood and hair on the hit-and-run drivers car just to see.
So...
Wife dies in a hit-and-run accident.
Local tells police the very next day he hit a deer exactly where wife was struck and killed at the exact time wife was struck and killed.
Police totally ignore it!
This is really horrific police abuse. Husband was acquitted but dragged through the entire unfair, nightmarish process. I hope he reems them a good one from his lawsuit. I hope he gets millions, but then again it is really unfair of local tax payers to have to foot that bill.
That crooked cop should be put into jail for his part in the railroading of the husband.
He should have just shot her and said he thought it was a prop gun.
No charges!!!!
Tell that to Alice Baldwin.
Watch, if they don’t get him they will grasp at straws and get SOMEONE ELSE. But it will not be allowed to be an accident. Accidents just do not happen anymore, they have to blame and charge someone period. The last 10 years I have seen some of the most outrageous “charges” filed. I go look these up and find that many of them are not even codified law, The charges just do not even exist, just something they make up on the fly hoping society will just accept it as falsely presented and the accused is stupid enough to just plea out.
Been happening for 30 years or more now.
Seriously though, it looks like this guy got a bum rap for doing the right thing. Had his wife gotten behind the wheel and killed somebody, then what?
As another poster pointed out, he should have let his lawyers do the talking for him. Amazing how people still talk to the police and even spend hours in an interrogation room and still waive their rights to an attorney. The cops are not your friends and are not necessarily out for justice. Their mission is to get confessions and close cases as quickly as possible.
One guilty pleasure of mine is going to YouTube and watching some of these police interrogations (there are hundreds of them posted). The detectives always at the beginning advise the suspect that they have the right to an attorney and do not need to talk. Almost always, they waive their right and think they can talk their way out of it.
In the interrogation room, the cops almost always pretend to be your friend, offering to get you coffee and food. But they are after one thing only - to get you to confess or otherwise incriminate yourself. The cops in the interrogation room are seasoned professionals who are highly trained to get you to incriminate yourself.
“ Guys, yet another reason for the mountain of reasons, not to get married. The state will pull this crap on you. The state refards married men as automatic evil adversaries at worst, atm’s for them and their ex’s at best.”
Whoever broke you, broke you bad. So bad that you decided that this case was “yet another reason” to not get married.
News flash: this case wouldn’t be any different at all if she had been his girlfriend or sister. It’s prosecutorial abuse and has nothing to do with marriage.
Doing the 100% right thing in this would have included driving her home, or calling a cab.
I knew a guy who, after a night of drinking, ended the night at a bar 1/4 mile from his house. Decided he had too much to drink to drive, and started walking home. Got arrested for public intoxication. That was messed up.
