Retired Army pilot and ex-Huntsville businessman Mike Durant -- surging in the polls in the Republican primary for Alabama’s U.S. Senate seat -- said he was “not surprised” when former President Donald Trump rescinded his endorsement Wednesday of Rep. Mo Brooks.
Durant said Trump shared with him that he was “frustrated” with Brooks’ performance in the race after he met the ex-president Monday.
“I’m not surprised, I was with the president on Monday and he shared with me personally how frustrated he was with him. I told him that I am the clear America first candidate in this race,” Durant told AL.com Wednesday through a campaign spokesman.
Durant, a retired Army pilot whose helicopter was shot down over Mogadishu, Somalia and taken hostage in the 1993 battle depicted in the book and the 2001 movie “Black Hawk Down,” also made the case for Trump to endorse him over Republican rival Katie Britt, the former Business Council of Alabama president and CEO and ex-chief of staff to Sen. Richard Shelby, who created the open Senate seat by announcing his retirement.
“Other candidates have refused to even mention President Trump, but I have proudly carried the America First banner in this race and always will,” Durant continued.
“I’ve got the momentum to beat the career politicians and send another Trump conservative to Washington.”

Also, Mike Durant is 7 years younger and doesn’t have cancer. Sorry, Mo.
In case anyone is wondering about that mentioned poll in the article above, here it tis:
2022 AL Senate GOP Primary
Gray TV/AL Daily News Poll by Cygnal, +/-4%
Mike Durant - 34.6%
Katie Britt - 28.4%
Mo Brooks - 16.1%
Lillie Boddie - 6.5%
Ms Jemian, could you please ping the Alabama list?
What do we know about Britt?
Rino or good conservative splitting the vote?
Anybody but Britt, who is essentially a Democrat.
Main concern is that Durant doesn’t have much of a record. He could turn out to be squishy once elected.

Agreed. Anyone but the Shelby hand-picked successor.
Durant is poison.
FWIW, I’ve worked closely with Special Forces Aviation pilots and units. None spoke kindly of Durant. One item in particular. For example, it was expected that proceeds from books about one’s personal experiences should be donated to care for the widows, orphans, and disabled Special Forces pilots. Durant did not adhere to this code and pocketed the proceeds from his book.
Here’s a few articles:
The so-called “fulcrum,” according to Harriman, would consist of forming a caucus of centrist, reform-minded senators to arrange a coalition with the likes of U.S. Senators Mitt Romney (R-Utah), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.), Chris Coons (D-Del.) and others.
Trojan Horse Candidate Waging War on Conservatism in Alabama
In his campaign ads, Durant claims to be a supporter of President Donald Trump. However, just like More Perfect Union’s plan relies on, Durant’s candidacy is a Trojan Horse for the types of globalist, moderate politicians of pre-Trump GOP politics.
In Alabama, Harriman told a group of potential investors and supporters, More Perfect Union is heavily invested in Mike Durant, who qualified in recent days to appear on the Republican ballot for the state’s May 24 U.S. Senate primary.
Public records show that well over $2 million has been dumped to support Durant’s candidacy already, far outpacing his Republican primary opponents obviously deemed too conservative for More Perfect Union’s liking.

Sounds like a gossip.
don’t know much about her other than she worked for the outgoing Senator Richard Shelby and she’s married to a former Alabama Football player. Pretty much she’s the chosen political successor for the current Senator. I guess youth would be the biggest positive about her - if that matters.
here’s what she says about herself FWIW:

then here’s the Durant site (very 20 years ago in its look)

These are not exactly the most impressive or inspiring candidates. Either would probably win the general easily as they seem to have good heads on their shoulders but you would think we could come up with better candidates than this to inspire national confidence in the party - which is especially important, IMHO, to find for “safe” seats since it is where this can be safely done.

Most insincere candidates know what buttons to push to elicit a Pavlovian response, groups such as the Romney one Durant is part of know how to use focus groups to their advantage.
Along with dishonest politicians, shady preachers have known for a long time which bell to ring to get the suckers running. Madison Avenue has made it an artform.

That’s what he’s saying now, but will he turn into an Amnesty Senator like Micro Rubio if he gets elected?
Amnesty is the antithesis of MAGA.
Britt will be an Assistant Democrat if elected.
Durant is an unknown.
Brooks is pretty conservative.
If you are here to just whine and throw cold water on other patriots supporting the president and each other in these hard times, you aren’t a good element, just negative energy.
Ping to the State list.
I haven’t been happy for a long time with Mo Brooks. He is the usual garden variety RINO. He only ever supported Trump because that’s the way the wind has been blowing. He’s been rather a milquetoast.
Hammer, Nail, Head.
Just stating facts.
We do not need any more _itches for Mitch.
That’s Britt.
To quote a line from one of my favorite movies, I may not know what I'm getting, but I certainly know what I've had. I'll give Durant a try.
Better than Britt, that’s for sure.
I never liked Brooks, but it looks pretty bad to cut and run like this.
