They were spying on EVERYONE, including Trump himself. Using the three hop rule, they were monitoring Page.
If Page talked to the chief of staff, they could monitor everyone the Chief of staff talked to, which is everyone including Trump.
And they could monitor everyone Trump talked to.
They should explicitly state this in the article.
It just irritated me. They make it sound like only Papdopoulos and Page were being spied on.
I shouldn’t be so hard on the authors, but this is why many people don’t care much about this “surveillance”.

It transpired that Hannigan’s resignation was much more mundane - he’d given a character reference for a Catholic priest, a family friend, who years later was convicted of child abuse.
