Expect for the occasional troll, Free Republic is made up of traditional conservatives, and nothing else. We all grew up respecting and admiring the police.
We haven’t changed. The police have changed. And I say that not from reading mainstream propaganda, but from my own personal observations.
It’s a damn shame on so many levels. There are, of course, still many fine police officers. But yeah, something has changed.
In general, they are arrogant and condescending. The largely honest and decent people for whom they work are considered a cash cow. Crime? You had your garage broken into? Here's a report for your insurance company.
I am sorry. Most of us tolerate this situation because we count on them in the extremely unlikely event something like Uvalde happens. When they sit around and pick their noses, it disturbs the average, God-fearing, tax paying citizen to his very core.

YOU NAILED IT! Decades ago, police had a true SERVE the public mindset. Today, most have a LORD OVER the public mindset. Good servants look out for the best interests of their masters. LORDS only look out for THEIR best interests.

Actually, we have changed. We are much more sceptical and less tolerant of profligate idiots. And much more vocal about our criticism. Cowardice deserves derision.
I am not law enforcement, (brother and nephew have been, the old style Good Cops) and I don’t pretend to be a hero, but I would be hard pressed to remain outside on the sidelines when children are in such danger and nothing being done.
