Speaking with my pastor friend, he confirms the “on” or “in” Greek word “epi” - from where epidermis, for example, is your outer skin.
A Mark ON your outer skin dovetails with the tattoo of ownership.
That being said I DO believe the globalists will try microchip tracking. Still, the Mark of the Beast will be a tattoo IMHO.

I’m wondering if some of these Globalists that are so intent on reducing the world’s population are simply active Satan worshippers.
Some of them seem to be trying to fulfill the Book of Revelation.
In the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the authority given believers in Mt 16:10, 18:18 and Luke 10:19, we now bind the strongman (Luke 11:20) over all plans and entities which are attempting to push through the US Senate and Congress an “Assault Weapons Ban”.
We loose, in Jesus’ Name, the warrior spirits and holy angels to attack, pull down, and destroy the evil spirit powers feeding and abetting these actions.
We loose upon them confusion and destruction - send to them please - the spirits of dumbness, stupidity, idiocy, and foolishness, and also clumsiness, isolation, blabbermouth, chatterbox, talktalktalk, and and dissension, to promote quarreling amongst thieves.
Make their way dark and slippery, so that they unbalance on camera and in person. Send them the spirit of truth, that they tell the truth when it is disadvantageous for them, and the spirit of error, that they make many many many mistakes, missteps, and misjudgements of power and timing.
Let this bring many of these leaders to the end of themselves, and that You may then offer to them the blessing of Salvation, that they may accept it and be saved.
And let many freedom loving (believers only) read and repeat this spiritual warfare prayer OUT LOUD to the spirit world, taking authority over evil spirit powers in the unseen realm, that they must obey, so that evil is stalled and/or stopped in this one area at this moment.

Above is a link that I find helpful. While the mark of the Beast may mean a physical tattoo - I think that it goes further than that. It is the entire thinking and believing of people in themselves or an institution or a person or beliefs that are not centered on God.
The number 666 is TRYING to be the perfect number 7, but as much as it tries to pretend that it is 7, or fools other into being a 7, it is not.
In this month of June (gay pride month) it is important to note that the gay pride flag has 6 colors, and is not God’s rainbow which has 7 colors.
The gay flag is colorful and brings ideas of joy and fun. Some even use it to say “God created the rainbow so he even loves gays!” (Well, of course he does - but he doesn’t want them to be sinners.)
And we have seen that many folks aren’t allowed to engage in commerce if they don’t accept the mark of the Beast in the form of the gay pride flag and all that it represents.
Their beliefs certainly control their actions.
However there will come a time, when the abomination that causes desolation occurs, also when the 3.5 years of Great Tribulation begins, the the second angel from Revelation 14 will preach that warning.
The martyred Tribulation Saints will rule and reign with Jesus Christ during His 1,000 year reign. And in into eternity shall they live with us.

It is so interesting that the sodomites chose the rainbow as their symbol when it is in fact the symbol of God’s promise that he will not destroy the earth by water ever again, but next time by fire. Which makes their idea of global warming interesting, too.
I can’t think of any religious figure who has that much influence today, except possibly the pope. Not even Franklin Graham.
