California Crazy: Los Angeles Politicians Want to Ban All New Gas Stations
Red State ^ | 06/23/2022 | Kira Davis

Posted on 06/23/2022 10:15:11 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

California is currently boasting the highest gas prices in the nation, in addition to some of the highest housing costs. With another gas tax set to be implemented on July 1, and Governor Gavin Newsom committing to completely ban new drilling in one of the most oil-rich states in the country, there seems to be no relief on the horizon for overwhelmed Californians.

Leave it to the city of Los Angeles to always add insult to injury. L.A. city council member Paul Koretz is introducing a policy that would permanently ban the construction of any new gas stations

“We are ending oil drilling in Los Angeles. We are moving to all-electric new construction. And we are building toward fossil fuel-free transportation,” said Paul Koretz, the LA council member who is working on the policy. “Our great and influential city, which grew up around the automobile, is the perfect place to figure out how to move off the gas-powered car.”

In addition to one of the fastest rising crime rates in the nation, Los Angeles also has one of the worst public transportation systems. Buses and trains are regularly occupied by the mentally-ill homeless and the drug addicted, who are often one and the same. While the city council dreams up ways to make the lives of struggling Angelenos harder, they don’t offer any alternative to automobiles and only the wealthy can afford electric vehicles in the Golden State.

From The Guardian:

LA’s developing policy is a significant shift for the car-reliant metro area, which has been ranked as one of the worst cities for US commuters. If successful, Los Angeles would be the largest city to pass such a measure. Andy Shrader, a staff member in Koretz’s office, said the council member hopes to see the policy move ahead by the end of the year.

“Our daily bad habits are destroying the natural systems we depend on to exist. It’s really up to cities to turn around climate change,” Shrader said. “If you have lung cancer you stop smoking. If your planet is on fire, you stop throwing gasoline on it.”

So far there are no real details about the real-life application of the pie-in-the-sky environmental strong-arming. Will gas stations that are destroyed by fire or some other natural cause be allowed to be rebuilt? As the city expands, will they be able to build new gas stations to accommodate new first responder centers? Does the city have any plans to make public transportation a more viable option?

Will it even matter to Los Angeles voters, who can’t seem to drum up the will to hold their politicians accountable for their jobs?

The most hated person in California is the taxpayer.

I would start buying up marginal mom and pop gas stations, ready to upgrade as business picks up.

Not building EV charging stations either because they don’t have enough electrical generation to accommodate them. By an EV and you had better get bicycle too.

Will the green fanatics start torching existing gas stations? Help them become obsolete?

That was my first thought.

But no, not the greenies. Dem operatives.

Public ground transportation in LA is not for everyone. You never know who or what you’ll get sitting next to you. Like some guy who smells like a campfire and starts arguing with the empty seat next to him. Not a real relaxing form of transportation. Similar to being on a prison bus.

Won’t the freeway traffic be moving even slower as people run out of gas more frequently?

Plus I’m sure that longer gas lines will likely cause more congestion.

The reality is PG&E is broke and cannot upgrade the Grid, rolling blackouts are going to be the norm, all public transportation is inadequate and will continue to be as the homeless situation gets worse. At some point Vigilante Justice will come about as the police are totally overwhelmed in trying to do their job and at some point event the taxpayers will revolt.

Next after banning gas stations,
ban auto repair shops and auto mechanics.
End any vocational auto repair classes in high school.
Finally outlaw the auto dealerships and auto sales.
Ban the sale of auto parts.
Ban drive through car washes.

The freaks running California and Los Angeles
are crazy enough to try it.
I hope they do try it.

Those who voted to place in power those Dem Party maniacs
deserve all the suffering that their Dem Overlords
inflict on them! .

At one time, seemed like every intersection in much of LA had a gas station on each corner. Was rather funny actually.

With millions of vehicles, they were needed. Now they build gas stations with not 4 pumps, but 18 pumps..

I don’t know what the hell they’ll do about the grid when they put about 5 or 10 million of these energy sucking EV’s in CA.

Absolutely they should do this and tax the existing ones onerously.

So fewer gas stations means reduced possibility of one having a little lower price.

And causes long lines of angry drivers waiting as in the Jimmy Carter years——instead of working or being with family.

So people making enough money to barely afford a small regular car (Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Subaru) , they will now say “I’m giving up and buying a wonderful electric Tesla.”

Google search today says:
“How much does a Tesla car cost? Tesla’s current car line (Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y) has market sale price ranges between $43,990 – $129,990 for a new vehicle.”

“The average transaction price for electric vehicles (EV) is $56,437, according to Kelley Blue Book — roughly $10,000 higher than the overall industry average of $46,329 that includes gas and EVs. In terms of pricing, an EV is equivalent to an entry-level luxury car.

To save time charging EVs and extend battery life, many drivers also install what’s known as “Level 2” chargers in their home, for a total cost of around $2,000, including installation.”
