Some employers in Florida will be prohibited from requiring their employees to attend activities that promote or otherwise endorse certain concepts related to race and sex beginning July 1, 2022. Specifically, the Stop Wrongs to Our Kids and Employees Act (Stop WOKE Act) (HB 7), which passed earlier this year, amends the Florida Civil Rights Act to create a new basis for an employment discrimination claim.
Prohibited Activities for Covered Employers
The new law, which applies to employers with 15 or more employees companywide, makes it an “unlawful employment practice” to require employees to attend any activity that “espouses, promotes, advances, inculcates, or compels” an individual to believe eight concepts related to race and sex, including the following:
An individual, by virtue of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin, is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously.
An individual's moral character or status as either privileged or oppressed is necessarily determined by his or her race, color, sex, or national origin.
An individual, by virtue of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin, bears responsibility for, or should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment because of, actions committed in the past by other members of the same race, color, sex, or national origin.
An individual, by virtue of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin, bears personal responsibility for and must feel guilt, anguish, or other forms of psychological distress because of actions, in which the individual played no part, committed in the past by other members of the same race, color, sex, or national origin.
Importantly, this law only applies to mandatory activities…

This ban is a very good idea, in theory. The country is divided enough as it is. Woke nonsense just make things worse, much worse.
But I sure can see how this law will be a regulatory nightmare. For who is to decide when a meeting or a presentation crosses the line?
I work for a subsidiary of a fortune 500. It’s amazing how little wokeness they publicly display.
We just held out annual meeting without a rainbow flag or any words about all the typical woke topics. There was lots of talk of financials, products etc.
The guy who did much of the planning and execution of the meeting is, shall we say, extremely well dressed and flamboyant. They gave him a hearty round of applause for his skills and abilities, not his life choices.
The overwhelming majority of employees would fit in well here at FR.
Racial pride separates a person from God as it inflates the ego and a person becomes full of themselves. If we are full of ourselves then we have no room for God in us.
It is the exact opposite of humility.
The surrender and guilt that wokeness is trying to impose on people is not humility, but slavery. It is a shackeling of the individual will.
Freedom is essential for spiritual growth as if someone else is holding power over your individual will, then you do not have the authority to surrender your will to God.
When you step back and look at the greater picture it is easy to see how evil uses communism to stop souls from growing.
We don’t “go” to Heaven.

As much as I like the poke-in-the-eye dimension of this law, as a matter of governmental overreach it's awful....BECAUSE when some doofus becomes governor and he passes the Ban Mandatory Capitalism Activities law, the left will say "weeeellll...you gave a cheery two-thumbs up on the Woke law...touché."
Keep the government out of internal corporate activities. MYOB. We can handle ourselves just fine, and I can always move to a different firm that isnt stupid about this stuff. Just keep taxes low and regulation light.

Companies have been compelled to do “woke” seminars as “protection” against being called racist. This law provides cover for Florida companies declining to participate.

The more I think about, the more I think you’re right. As I noted earlier, this ban has real value as “wokeness” is destroying this country. But now I’m starting to wonder if the ban violates the 1A, freedom of speech.
Suppose some employer talks about how, at one time, all politicians were well-connected white men. Women and minorities were shoved off to the side. What is that employer trying to do? He’s probably trying to stir up trouble. But should it be a crime?
We are losing the war of ideas. This ban is probably not the best way to address that.
It is predictable that woke company Personnel Departments will announce:
"Attendance at this event is not mandatory, but executive staff would appreciate it if you could attend this completely voluntary event."
What do you do?

Those are voluntary associations. What this bill does is prohibit companies from FORCING employees to take certain re-education classes or activities.
Companies nowdays are prohibited from discriminating for a bunch of stuff. It’s about time we stop them from punishing conservatives.
This is not a case of us wanting to impose our values on the company, but of not wanting our values trampled on as official policy of the company.

I am retired. But if they, the meeting sponsors, want a good attendance, they just need to post: “Lunch and Refreshments Provided!”
A good crowd will show up just for free food, or T-shirts etc.
