Put simply, this is statism. Some people may like it because it's "conservative" but it's still the state meddling in private affairs where, per the Founders, the state has no business. The law is effectively supported by the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964, the basis of which is a bastardized interpretation of the Commerce Clause. The Founders never intended for the CC to be used this way (see the Federalist Papers).

You’re catching a bit of flak here, but yeah, you’re right. It’s important to note that this new law targets private companies. The government really shouldn’t be trying to regulate speech in private companies.
But that doesn’t mean we should give up! This ban should instead be applied to public entities like local governments, public schools, and public universities. That’s where we can, and should, engage in the war of ideas.
It is something how being “anti-racist” means judging people by their race, color, sex, or national origin, and hating them if they don’t belong to your particular “tribe.”

I worked at an early-woke company in Silicon Valley. About seven years ago, HR sponsored a 3 PM “Milk and Cookies” event in honor of Harvey Milk, the homo San Francisco supervisor who was murdered. Our sales operations team sat next to HR and I don’t think anybody showed up. People had way too much work to do to attend such a ridiculous event. That was my first exposure to this crap in the workplace. The company eventually got acquired.
I have misgivings about this, too. We have to be careful we don’t do things they way the left does things. For example, the NY governor saying that if you own a gun or are pro-life, you have no place in NY and you should leave. This law doesn’t do anything like that. I’m not so sure we should do like the left does and have a long list of topics and opinions it is forbidden to talk about. Although the left inserts itself into everything to make it political and tribal, and that needs to be pushed back against.

It’s a bit of both, I guess. My concern is that the ban is being applied to private businesses. Should the government be regulating speech in private businesses?

I always arrived early to such meetings. And that’s because I wanted to get a seat next to a window. The speaker would babble on as I looked outside and watched the birds. It’s lucky that I was never called on, as I was paying no attention whatsoever.

Florida is a right to work state so the woke aspect of compelling someone to attend a “whiteness” class can be used to fire someone just like the vaxx mandates. To me this is not freedom of speech but a way to control someone and to spread a political agenda. Just a thought because there are companies out there that will do that.
Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak Michigan, forced a friend to watch a video showing two men having sex. This was so she could learn to like them, it upset her so much it brought her to tears. She had to view this to keep her job.

A private company is not the government. Free speech is about the government, not conduct in your private free associations.
In “my” private company I determine the rules of conduct, including what you can and can’t do on company time. You get to do what I say you can do and you don’t get to do what I say you can’t. Our association is free, not compulsory, you are free to leave anytime.
The same stupid line of law could ban a religious based private company from religious based rules on speech and behavior on company time.

First of all, if it comes from H.R., it’s a lie. (I worked in HR for years; I know.) Second, even if it’s allegedly not mandatory, they will be taking names and later kicking ass although they’ll gin up another reason for making your work life a living hell.
Go so your face is registered and you’re signed in. Walk out another door immediately if possible. If you stay, be prepared to puke.
I did attend one when I couldn’t help but speak up when the presenter used the Clarence Thomas / Anita Hill as a legitimate example of sexual harassment. When I pointed out that there never was a case, it was a setup, and basically nobody believed Hill, the presenter kind-of choked. I actually believe it was a “case”.
25 years ago I hired into a fortune 100 and was shocked by this mandatory new hire training where this fat black chick started telling the group about the evils of the white male.
I raised my hand and said, “what is this?”, I feel like I’m begin hated”.
She calmly asked the group if they shared my opion and they all shut their mouths at which point I decided to drop it, get through it and get on with my career.
Then later in HRM meetings run by a majority black woman HR where a % of positions flagged as minority or minority female. ...which is illegal. I left the company because of their internal racism.
