Maybe this is an effect of the dictator sidelining his top Military brass, and starting to make the military decisions himself - like Hitler did.

Another similarity between Hitler and Vladolph Putler (who seems to be morphing before our eyes.

It’s an inherent weakness of dictators. They end up getting rid of all the competent people, since competent people both challenge their dictates, and can pose a threat to their control. Then they are left surrounded by fawning incompetents, and when they get rid of all of them for their incompetence, they are left alone.

That would be all three regiments of the 7th Airborne. They used to be the best of the best according to the Russians. Heavy losses in Feb destroyed them until now.
