“According to multiple former senior U.S. officials we spoke with, in April 2022, Russian and Ukrainian negotiators appeared to have tentatively agreed on the outlines of a negotiated interim settlement: Russia would withdraw to its position on February 23, when it controlled part of the Donbas region and all of Crimea, and in exchange, Ukraine would promise not to seek NATO membership and instead receive security guarantees from a number of countries.”

Fairy tale nonsense. No way Putinist Russia gives up the land bridge and water to occupied Crimea without a fight. A big fight.

The British have created every global calamity war in the last couple of centuries.

World War I (France agreed its “powderkeg” treaties didn’t apply to the Holy Roman Empire war against Russia, since Russia stated it, but the UK insisted on destroying Germany under the pretense that the HRE’s actions against Bosnia were to blame. Sorry, but we fought for the bad guys in that war.)

The Russian Revolution/Cold War (Britain exported Marxism from Germany to Russia in the hopes it would weaken Russia. When Russia was dragged into WWI, created by Britain, Marxist revolutionaries destroyed Russia)

World War II (Britain’s vicious, triumphalist terms of surrender to German directly led to Hitler’s election; even Hitler’s hatred of Jews was aimed at the British banking industry.)

Latin American poverty (Most Latin-American countries derive from anti-Spain interventions from Britain and masonic Americans. How did Argentina become a basket-case? Britain wanted to punish Spain for remaining neutral against Germany.)

Middle East conflict (Britain purposely divided ethnic groups and lumped warring ethnic groups together to make the Middle East ungovernable, and therefore easy for Britain’s oil industry to dominate. Yes, Britain. The U.S. gets very little oil from the Middle East. It’s the British [BP] and Dutch [Shell] who profit off of wars in the Middle East.)

India’s extreme poverty (Britain purposely demolished the economy of India and literally divided the nation to prevent industrialization or the development of a domestic market.)

China’s basket-case (Britain’s heroine industry — the U.S. is partially at fault here too — weakened the Chinese Empire and its invovement with heroine gave the Marxists the moral high ground.)

Outside observers also don’t understand the attitude in Ukraine. It’s victory of death for them.

War fervor is high and your average Ukrainian would die before giving up an inch of territory. There would be a coup against Zelensky if he made such a deal.

If the war drags on or the Ukrainians experience some military defeats those attitudes will change, but right now there could be no such deal.

“The British have created every global calamity war in the last couple of centuries.”

Except that this current calamity was created by the humongous ego of Pidor Putin, Ruler of Soviet Russia, Tsar of Europe, King in the North, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, the King on the Iron Throne, the Rhoynar, Grand Poohbah of the Loyal Order of Water Buffalo, Terror of The Seven Seas, and the High and Mighty of the High Heels.

Don't forget the Opium wars along with the opium dens the British allowed to flourish. The flooding of America & Britain with Chinese fentanyl is 100% retribution.

Good point, Jon. Do you remember how Mao finally put a swift end to China’s lingering opium problem?

Exactly: simply nonsense. It’s just suggesting that Ukraine still wants into NATO and NATO wants Ukraine in to “threaten” Russia. Pfft.

Well, you know that tends to happen with people who have lived under the Soviet heel before, and the Tsar's before. Maybe they're just not that much into dictatorships.

Right. The idea that Russia would have been willing to withdraw completely to the original borders in exchange for nothing more than a promise that Ukraine wouldn’t join NATO is ridiculous.

I do recall Mao’s solution and the same method will be used here if they finally topple this government.

Ukraine has a legitimate point. If they gave up significant amounts of territory and agreed not to go under the NATO umbrella, there would be nothing preventing the Russians from doing the exact same thing 5 years down the road, except against a smaller, weaker Ukraine.

The point of the Ukrainian defense, and the reason it is right for us to support Ukraine, is to make the cost to Russia so high that they never again decide it is a good idea to invade one of their neighbors. This war is now about strengthening the disincentive for future Russian aggression.

Also, the U.S. and UK PROMISED Ukraine that we would defend it against Russian aggression if it gave up its nukes.

Excellent piece.

Raheem Kassan knows his stuff, and is a very good source of reality. And on our side 100%.

“In such circumstances the very best we can do is be conscientious objectors. The hippy peaceniks of our time. While Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson (yes, really), Joseph Robinette Biden (also, really), and the evil comic-book character-named Ursula von der Leyen pursue their “Great Reset” through the apparatus of a civilization-ending conflict.”

Yup. I’m a conscientious objector in this idiocy. I’ve also become Anti-War regarding the US’s habit of pushing and funding Forever Wars that bankrupt us (like Trump).

Thanks, Boris! For the economic crash all over the world. For blackouts and mass starvation about to commence.

“Putins War” my a$$.

“Fairy tale nonsense.“

____________________

So you’re saying Democrat Fiona Hill is lying about the agreement.

Fiona Hill:

“Fiona Hill is a British-American foreign affairs specialist and academic. She is a former official at the U.S. National Security Council specializing in Russian and European affairs. She was a witness in the November 2019 House hearings regarding the impeachment inquiry during the first impeachment of Donald Trump.“

From the article authored by Russia experts Fiona Hill and Angela Stent the OP article references:

“According to multiple former senior U.S. officials we spoke with, in April 2022, Russian and Ukrainian negotiators appeared to have tentatively agreed on the outlines of a negotiated interim settlement: Russia would withdraw to its position on February 23, when it controlled part of the Donbas region and all of Crimea, and in exchange, Ukraine would promise not to seek NATO membership and instead receive security guarantees from a number of countries.”

After Boris Johnson’s influence and promise for massive military support, Ukraine backed out and this is the consequence later in July to Zelensky’s pulling out:

“But as Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated in a July interview with his country’s state media, this compromise is no longer an option. Even giving Russia all of the Donbas is not enough. “Now the geography is different,” Lavrov asserted, in describing Russia’s short-term military aims. “It’s also Kherson and the Zaporizhzhya regions and a number of other territories.” The goal is not negotiation, but Ukrainian capitulation.“”

How Boris Johnson, spurred on his Clintonista wife, killed the deal:

Excerpt fro OP article:

“A graduate of the Clinton Global Initiative’s Oceana project, Symonds pushed Johnson to a full-throated defense of Ukraine, even when his premiership was on the rocks. She figured her husband acting the statesman on the ground in Kiev would shore up his position in the United Kingdom. Having known her personally, she was always this poorly calculating and naive. Boris would be removed from office a few short months later.

But it was the April 9th trip in particular that may have scuttled the peace negotiations, as Johnson pledged 120 new, armored vehicles alongside anti-ship missile systems.

“This is in addition to the £100 million worth of high-grade military equipment announced yesterday, including more Starstreak anti-aircraft missiles, another 800 anti-tank missiles, and high-tech loitering munitions for precision strikes,” the government’s press release announced.

“The Prime Minister also confirmed further economic support, guaranteeing an additional $500m [£385m] in World Bank lending to Ukraine, taking our total loan guarantee to up to $1 billion. This comes alongside the £394m the UK has provided in grant aid, and will help ensure the continued running of vital humanitarian services for Ukrainians.”

In one fell swoop, the British Prime Minister kept the war going.””

Minsk agreements gave the eastern provinces independence or sovereign status without leaving Ukraine- the Ukies violated that agreement and started bombing the Ethnic Russian territory. THAT was the start of this war. Do note the Azov Neo Nazi units were responsible for shelling the Donbass since 2014.

“This war is now about strengthening the disincentive for future Russian aggression.”

Good point. But I would expand that to dissuading China, Iran and our other enemies. Russia stepped in a bear trap in Ukraine, and China needs to believe Taiwan would be the same.

The great shame is we used to be able to do that without violence as folk feared us. A group of wimps in charge (plus our failures in the Middle East) emboldened our enemies to try a war like this.

Are you seriously defending the Minsk agreements dictated to Ukraine by Victoria Nuland and the Obama team?
