Help me (and others) to understand how to post script and external linked photos

Hey smart folks, I'm one of those users who never figured out how to post italic, bold or underlined script, or how to embed photos from elsewhere into my posts.
Any tips welcome. Thanks.

I finally mastered limited html for posting here, and then I figured out how to post links. But pictures and gifs are still beyond my “knowledge base.” Time to get cracking on those too, I guess.

Ignore all the HTML sandbox replies. Do not even go there. Do not even try to use any and all of the special characters that are commonly advised as you try to post in italics or post pictures or whatever.
If you can post a reply, you can use a free online HTML editor. There are many good ones. They are free, there’s no downloading, and they are easy to use. This is one of the good ones.

It’s impossible to give any kind of sample tutorial here, because any sample I give will be interpreted as not being a sample, and the sample will not be included in my post.
Hope that makes sense.
Go to the HTML sandbox, and play around by typing Preview, not Post.
