New (And Previous) Disney CEO Bob Iger Folds to Ron DeSantis Like a Wash-and-Wear Suit

Big changes are coming to Disney, and though I would have never suspected it given past history, it looks like Bob Iger is looking to turn away from overt political activism.

Iger returned to the role of CEO in the last few weeks, having started Disney’s woke revolution many years ago. Yet, the company’s disastrous battle with Florida’s Ron DeSantis has him ready to change course. According to Iger, he regrets the clash with the rock-star Republican governor and will look to move Disney toward a more neutral position in the culture wars.

Iger expressed regret that Disney engaged in the high-profile fight against Gov. DeSantis, which resulted in the state legislature stripping the company of its special administrative status. "I was sorry to see us dragged into that battle." pic.twitter.com/889toYW5ye

Better late than never, I suppose, and to be sure, there’s still a bit of “I’ll believe when I see it” in play here. Objectively, though, it’s a good thing to see Disney bend the knee. Don’t be fooled by Iger’s somewhat couched language. This is a major walk back of Disney’s prior policy on political activism. It’s also an incredibly smart business move given how unpopular the forcing of far-left orthodoxy on children is among the general population of parents.

With that said, Iger has a battle in front of him. It’s easy for him to say this stuff, but Disney is infested with leftwing lunatics who believe it is their job to shove a “not-so-secret gay agenda” down the throats of audiences. Those people are not going to go quietly, and there’s going to be a lot of entertainment value in watching the chaos.

On the other hand, Iger would not have been brought back in if the plan wasn’t to give him free rein to purge the troublemakers. We’ll soon find out how much of a stomach he has to do what needs to be done, but the shakeup at CEO was clearly driven by financial concerns, and those tend to trump woke virtue signaling when push comes to shove.

Returning to DeSantis, this is what extreme competence in governance gets you. When he decided to take on Disney, so many on the right told him he was making a mistake. Some even mocked him, proclaiming that he’d never beat such a popular entity in the State of Florida. Well, who’s laughing now? Because Disney’s new CEO just got up on a stage and folded like a wash-and-wear suit.

Imagine what a person with DeSantis’ abilities could accomplish in the White House. There is no one else as well-equipped to take on the entrenched bureaucratic state, and he has the skins on the wall to prove it. He’s willing to take on the tough battles, but there’s more to owning the libs than just shouting. DeSantis is always a step ahead, and that’s a quality that’s rare in Republican circles these days.

So far, this Iger Retreat is not much more than words and feelings about other words.
We shall see what he does when the lefties demand a corporate response to the next conservative move that someone like De Santis makes. Those angry Blue Haired Trans-Ladies will be rattling the Disney Gates, expecting Iger to fold again, but this time, their way.

DeSantis has his own issues with the Disney special district situation. Disney currently has over a billion dollars in municipal bonds out there, and if the district was fully dissolved that debt would revert back to Orange county. It’s estimated that the counties property tax bills would go up 25% or more overnight. Additionally, Orange county would be responsible for all the municipal services that Disney now provides such as fire/EMT’S, 911, building inspections, fire marshal, sanitary inspections, etc. That would push up Orange counties debt even further. Look to see Disney and Florida quietly and unobtrusively hammer out a deal to let WDW to retain some portion of their autonomy in exchange for some concessions on particular issues. I’m a follower of the parks and the hue and cry for Chapek’s head began when he botched this situation. Iger in many ways is no less woke than Chapek, but he’s much more diplomatic and intelligent. Chapek at the time of his departure was almost universally reviled by parks customers and Dis employees alike.

He was sorry to see Disney dragged into that battle? Disney picked that fight with DeSantis. Disney was not dragged into the battle , Disney chose that battle.

I know facts and language don’t mean anything to certain liberals, but this one seems glaring to me. Disney corporate wanted that fight against DeSantis, to show that they are liberal on homosexual issues. It is absurd to say that somehow they were dragged into a fight they did not want to have. They chose that fight and they chose poorly.

The increase in property tax would be paid by Disney, they don’t get those services for free…..

Anyone who believes this is foolish. Iger led Disney to the woke world in the first place. He's a savvy, smart leftist, and he will ensure that Disney keeps a lower profile while it continues to push it's LGBTQIA+ agenda. That's the only turn Disney will take under Iger - it will be less confrontational and more sneaky.

There are plenty of private properties that are not special exemption areas that provide their own security, emt services, and fire protection.....

. every refinery in the country has their own of each of these services, and none have special tax exemptions....

. why should any of the Disney properties be treated differently?

if he can turn Disney Corp., then he can take a giant step toward reclaiming 20th C. American culture. God’s speed to him.

DeSantis: more Reaganesque everyday.

Here is an old Trump supporter that now backs DeSantis. Time to move on with a younger generation and De Santis is the one to take charge.

In another post, Iger said he's not backing down from shoving LGBT content into the faces of children.

Of course, he was speaking to his woke employees when he uttered those contradictory words.

Iger will soon discover, when it comes to some modern cults, such as with many Trans, there can be no King Solomon treatment, where ‘both sides’ get something and give something. The Trans want it all, every time and in every way. They don’t wish to share any power or make any accomodations. Their greed and their vanity will be their (cultural) undoing as influencers. People will simply get tired of the unfairness and illogic everywhere they look.

Because they lost money and power, not because they did wrong.

So DeSantis can take on Disney, but can’t rid Florida of RCV-enabled voting machines, early voting, and mail-in voting?

Okaaaay...
