The Steelers were about to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the miraculous catch
Franco Harris, the Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Steelers running back who was known for making a miraculous grab in the AFC Divisional Playoffs against the Oakland Raiders in 1972, has died. He was 72.
Harris’ death came days before the Steelers were set to retire his No. 32 jersey and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the "Immaculate Reception" at Acrisure Stadium. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin talked about Harris’ catch on Tuesday when he addressed reporters.

54 Seconds..................
Yeah.. saw that..
Too young
It wasn’t very long ago 72 was male life expectancy.... Covid and vaccines have made us suspicious of every death under four score..
The cause of death was not immediately known.
Harris’ son Dok told the Associated Press his father died overnight.
So sad….the big celebration was in full plan mode.
RIP Franco Harris.
I met him. Super cool guy.
RIP - Great memories from that era !!!
I had a signed picture of him on my locker at school (I was a senior in 1973). Somebody stole it.
RIP Franco.
Darn! I remember that game!
“Covid and vaccines have made us suspicious of every death under four score.”
From Wikipedia: “Harris’ brother Pete Harris, a collegiate All-American football player, died on August 15, 2006, of a heart attack at the age of 49.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco_Harris#Early_life
I did not know that the Covid Jab was available in 2006.
He died suddenly.
I watched it too.
What a sad coincidence that the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception is Friday. RIP Franco Harris, one of many great backs to come out of Penn State. His army mourns.
If someone came to you and said: You have a choice
1) Be an NFL star, retire and live out your years
—or—
2) Make the most amazing catch that will on in infamy and die days before its 50th anniversary celebration
Which would you choose?
He got the immaculate injection

I saw Franco Harris about a year ago at a football game and was kidding around with him since he looked like he could still go in and play. What a great man What a great inspiration. Kindness, humility and class. He belongs to ages, but I will forever cherish his memory

He and George Washington alone share statues at the arrival terminal of Pittsburgh International Airport.
And the Steelers play the Raiders on Saturday Night (Christmas Eve). The Immaculate Reception is literally my first recollection of football, being a 5 year old at the time.
As a 10 year old Raider fan.....the ball bounced off Fuqua...
RIP Harris ...
