After more than 24 years in the Illinois legislature, House Republican Minority Leader Jim Durkin is resigning his seat. In November, the day after the election, Durkin announced that he was resigning as House Minority Leader.
During the midterm election, Durkin suffered embarrassing losses, giving House Democrats once again, supermajority control in the Illinois House.
In media interviews after announcing his resignation as House GOP leader, State Rep. Jim Durkin attempted to place all of the blame on the 45th President of the United States Donald Trump.
“As long as we continue to say that we are the party of Trump and that we have to abide by the party principles in the platform, 100% we’re gonna continue down this path of losing,” said Durkin.
But pointing fingers and blaming others is exactly why Illinois House Republicans are in the super minority – and Durkin has no one else to blame but himself. And blaming the former President does nothing but distract from his own leadership failures.
In announcing his resignation on Sunday, Durkin once again began pointing fingers, saying,
“I hope that at some point in the near future, and I think we’re getting there, that the party breaks its fever of Donald Trump and understands and learns from the past. Some people will never get there.”
But Durkin didn’t just stop there.

How many of your endorsed candidates won election, Mr. Durkin?

When the GOPee Establishment ain’t Backstabbing ya, they’re SurrenderMonkeying to their Swell Pals, the Democrats.
Blue areas becoming more blue, red areas becoming more red.
I’m OK with this.
Good riddance...we need more rinos to do the same!!!
His candidates were most likely all TDS RINOS
He’s made his many millions from *inside trading*, so he’s getting out so he can enjoy the ill-gotten gains.
There’s a prison cell with his name on it.
The guy has been in politics since 1991, got his butt kicked by Dick Durbin in a Senate race, and was state chair for both of McCain’s failed Presidential runs....but it’s Trump’s fault? Okay....
It’s time to blow up the Illinois GOP and start over!!
Amen, brother. Amen.
Trump is temporary, Jimmy-boy ... but if you don't support the Second Amendment and the Right to Life you can just bugger off to the demonicRATs. Or get your head out of your @$$. The latter would be preferred.
Adios Rino!
I sure hope so.
In before somebody posts the “Well… bye” guy.
There is no viable GOP in Illinois. Chicago and Cook County are solid blue and have been for generations. Now, many of the once very conservative collar counties are flipping blue because of the Dem migration from Chicago and Cook County, and they are bringing their insane voting habits with them.
Unfortunately, due to my wife’s medical condition moving out of this state is not really an option. If I survive her, though, I will be out of this state like a bolt of lightning.
They think the answer is to tack left.
The real answer is the address the cheat, effectively.
Unfortunately, the repubs are in no position to pass laws addressing the cheat while they are in the super minority.
They have to adapt and overcome first, get better at collecting ballots and also creating a scene at EACH precinct ballot box, bringing attention to it, from start to finish.
