The Russian military, the second largest military in the world, may not be what it looks like. Lies and systematic corruptions may in fact have dragged Russia into this war with Ukraine, which has been heavily backed up by the US and NATO. We will present the evidence, you make your own decision, because the Russian Army, is not what you think.

Designed to support the U.S. Army Captains Career Course, “Understanding Combined Arms Warfare” defines and outlines the important aspects of modern combined arms operations. This is not a complete history of combined arms warfare. It is intended to highlight the most important aspects of the subject.

The beginning of the documentary establishes a common understanding of combined arms warfare by discussing doctrinal and equipment developments in World War I. The second part compares the development of French and German Army mechanization during the interwar period and describes how each country fared during the Battle of France in 1940. The film concludes by showing how the United States applied combined arms operations in the European Theater in World War II.

-—> Damage Assessment From Major War Plans Leak Underway In U.S., Ukraine <——
The classified documents could become a problem for the sharing of sensitive information between Ukraine and the U.S., as well as others.
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/damage-assessment-from-major-war-plans-leak-underway-in-us-ukraine

Excerpts:
Ukrainian intelligence and military officials are analyzing whether documents leaked about U.S. and NATO plans to support Kyiv ahead of the looming spring counteroffensive are real and what damage was caused to future efforts if they are.

“Right now we are checking and comparing these materials” in the documents, Maj. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate, told The War Zone Friday.

The documents were apparently initially released on a Discord server in the beginning of March and in recent days on social media, including the Telegram messaging app. They are part of a much larger trove of more than 100 documents with top secret and other restricted classifications that were leaked, according to Aric Toler, director of training and research for Bellingcat.

“Topics include lots of Russia/Ukraine, but also some briefs on unrelated topics, such as ISIS, China, etc.,” he said on Twitter.

The documents apparently show a wide range of details from Ukrainian and Russian troop dispositions, Ukrainian combat power generation, the anticipated delivery time of donated tanks and other armor, casualty figures, the number of U.S. and allied special operations forces in Ukraine, the number of U.S. and NATO troops and aircraft and U.S. submarines in the region, status of the conflict as of March 1, projected weather ahead of the anticipated counteroffensive and even the Ukrainian usage of munitions, including the U.S. donated Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) munitions for the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS.

The documents purport to have emanated from the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff with at least some distributed to Ukraine, NATO, the Five Eyes intelligence sharing alliance of the U.S. its and allies Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

At least one of the documents purports to also have been shared with Finland, which was not a NATO member at the time of their creation.

“Senior US official confirms to me these are real slides produced by the Joint Staff but have been heavily doctored,” Lara Seligman of Politico Tweeted.

“Since the USSR collapse [Russian] intelligence has degraded to an extent that the only way to redeem themselves after ‘Salisbury,’ ‘3-day plans’ etc. is photoshop & ‘virtual fake leaks,’” Ukrainian presidential advisor Mikhailo Podolyak wrote on Twitter Friday. “Moscow is eager to disrupt [Ukraine’s] counteroffensive but it will see the real plans on the ground. Soon.”

“This is Russian disinformation,” a Ukrainian government official, also speaking on condition of anonymity to address classified information, told The War Zone.

At least one of the documents being circulated appears to have been altered to lower the number of casualties suffered by Russian forces, the U.S. officials told Reuters, adding that their assessments were informal and separate from an investigation into the leak itself.

Toler, of Bellingcat, told The War Zone that in his assessment, the original documents posted on Discord are real, while later versions, posted on Russian Telegram channels, were “edited.”

One former senior U.S. special operations officer who routinely dealt with classified materials told The War Zone that the documents he observed via social media at least appear to be real.

“They look legit,” said the former officer, who like others interviewed for this story, spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss classified materials. “The real question is what is coming out of the Pentagon and who has access?”

Of the documents, the biggest concern is one, marked Top Secret, purporting to show the disposition of Russian and Ukrainian troops on March 1.

“This is not good,” said the former special operations officer. “If accurate, this information is the holiest of the holies.”

“The first issue is how did they get into the public sphere?” that former official said. “Who lost control of it and was it someone who deliberately gave it to the Russians, or was it someone who carelessly lost it or was stolen out of a hotel room? There are a whole range of possibilities.”

“If the documents are real, there is also a limited distribution, and intelligence agencies should be able to track down where they came from,” said the former intelligence official. “It’s not like the old days of the Pentagon Papers, when hundreds of pages were Xeroxed.

Everything has a cyber fingerprint and I think it would be pretty easy for them to determine if they are real and where the leak came from.”

That’s how the National Security Agency (NSA) managed to track down former NSA contractor Reality Winner, who leaked documents to The Intercept about Russia secretly trying to gain access to U.S. voting systems in 2016.

When it comes to the documents, what’s real and what’s disinformation is not yet fully clear. There is a very hot information battle burning on both sides of this war. We will have to see how this story plays out.

[They Realized It’s A Kill Zone | Ukrainians Demolish Russian Position With Tanks]

••Day 408: April 07

Today the biggest news is coming from the east. Here, after revealing that Ukrainians are supplying the Bakhmut group via tunnels, Wagner forces decided to stop trying to cut the highways and focus on the city. However, the moment the Russians were pushed from the roads, Ukrainians sent several groups of tanks to Bakhmut and used them to demolish the streets that the Russians managed to capture.

Last time I told you that Ukrainians were pushed out from their positions along the river, and that the fights shifted closer to the center of the city. I also told you that it had been widely speculated that Ukrainians are not planning to fight here for a long time because they have prepared the main defense line along the railways.

The freshest reports suggest that these speculations were correct. Recent combat footage released by a Russian war correspondent reveals that Russian forces have already reached Sibirtseva Street. Judging by the video, they have already assumed positions inside this block.

A bit to the south, Russians have passed the stadium Metalurg and reached Kovalska Street. Combat footage from this part of the town shows that Russians are trying to get closer to the railways. When it comes to the stadium Avangard, where two days ago we saw intense fights as well – here, the enemy did not manage to advance and is still located south of Kovalska Street. In the footage released several hours ago, a Russian soldier is describing a situation on a radio, saying that the assault unit cannot move because Ukrainians established fire control over the area with their tanks.

And this is not surprising. Russian sources have been reporting for weeks about the relocation of Ukrainian tanks to Bakhmut, especially after Ukrainians conducted the first major counterattack near Ivanivske and pushed Russians from the hill.

This allowed Ukrainians to send small groups of tanks via the highway from Kostiantynivka and quickly enter Bakhmut from the south without the threat of being shot with Anti-Tank Guided Missiles.

Tanks are very feared in urban warfare. Russians may spend weeks to establish total control over a street, while a sudden tank assault allows them to demolish multiple houses and everyone who occupies them in under a minute.

And with the abundance of garages, warehouses, and former supermarkets, it is very easy to hide a tank once it returns from a mission.

Russians are also using tanks. Ukrainian 93rd Mechanized Brigade showed the aftermath of clashes between Ukrainian and Russian tanks.

The Russian side also features destroyed Ukrainian tanks in the central part of the city, however, in armored warfare, just like in the infantry fights, the defending party has an advantage because it doesn’t need to expose itself first.

Russians cannot use the same tactic and just destroy all the houses because they need at least something to be left to be able to leverage in a future attack. Ukrainians, in turn, don’t have to do that, and once they understand that the position is lost, they can roll out a tank and demolish Russian positions.

The Battle for Bakhmut took a substantial toll on Wagner forces, and we could observe a lot of indicators of that for weeks. First of all, Wagner forces were gradually but continuously reinforced by the regular Russian army, in particular, airborne units, to prevent the collapse of the flanks. Secondly, the six-month contracts with prisoners were about to end. And thirdly, Prigozhin launched an extensive recruitment campaign.

Over the last week, Prigozhing finally confirmed these speculations himself. He said that Wagner forces rapidly shrank by (at least) 5000 troops because the contracts with the prisoners ended. He also made a video on one of the Wagner cemeteries, saying that it continues to grow. And he explicitly admitted that the Battle for Bakhmut had damaged Wagner forces pretty badly.

In this case, the conclusion was quite obvious because the quotes can be easily verified by checking Prigizhin’s videos and an audio response to a Russian news outlet.

But for the most part, it is very hard to verify the information. In such cases, the first thing I do is look at how many other sources covered this event.

Denys says:
[Avdiivka | The Counterattack in Avdiivka | Ruzzsia can’t Hold Donbas]

••Most Russian forces are on the south side of the city. Wagner regulars sent to reinforce Airborne troops.

Ukrainian counterattack on the north side of the city was successful; now fighting against the 136th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, reinforced by 109th Rifle Brigade (DPR) & 277th Rifle Battalion. 132nd Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade, 3rd “Berkut” (DNR) is also in the area.

The DPR group may be understrength because most of the DPR/LNR conscripts have been wasted. This thrust may be aimed to meet wit the counterattack further north and take that chuck back. However, the Russians said the counterattack has bogged down, even though the UA has enough troops to succeed.

Bakhmut:
UA has pushed Russians north away from the long lake.

Railway east of the city center now forming UA defense line in Bakhmut.

The main task in the defense of Bakhmut was to destroy the Wagner Army, now mostly achieved.v The roads around the city are still very muddy with vehicles getting bogged down. In 2-3 weeks the ground should be dry enough to start the Spring counterattack.

ISW’s RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE CAMPAIGN ASSESSMENT, APRIL 8, 2023

“Key Takeaways

Ukrainian and Russian sources discussed the decreased rate of Russian offensive operations along the entire frontline on April 8, supporting ISW’s assessment that the overall Russian offensive is approaching culmination.

The dynamics of battlefield artillery usage in Ukraine reflect the fact that Russian forces are using artillery to offset their degraded offensive capabilities.

Former Russian officer and ardent nationalist Igor Girkin launched a new effort likely aimed at protecting the influence the Russian pro-war faction within the Kremlin.
The “Club of Angry Patriot’s” reveals several key implications about the Kremlin dynamics and the perceived danger to Putin’s regime.

Girkin may be advancing the political goals of unnamed figures within Russian power structures possibly within the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB).

Russian nationalists seized on assassinated Russian milblogger Maxim Fomin’s funeral to promote pro-war narratives.

Russia’s missile campaign to degrade Ukraine’s unified energy infrastructure has failed definitively, and Russia appears to have abandoned the effort.

The Kremlin is likely intensifying legal punishments for terrorism-related crimes as part of a larger effort to promote self-censorship and establish legal conditions for intensified domestic repressions.

The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) may be setting conditions for a false flag attack in Sumy Oblast.
Russian forces conducted limited ground attacks along the Svatove-Kreminna line.

Russian forces have continued to make gains around Bakhmut, and tensions between the Wagner Group and conventional Russian forces over responsibility for tactical gains in Bakhmut appear to be intensifying.

Russian sources continued to speculate about the planned Ukrainian counteroffensive in southern Ukraine, including hypothesizing about the possibility of a Ukrainian amphibious landing across the Kakhovka Reservoir.

The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) on April 6 proposed a defense industrial base (DIB) deregulation reform that could expedite defense production but will more likely facilitate corruption and embezzlement.

Ukrainian officials reported that 31 children returned to Ukraine after having been deported to Russia as Russian officials continue to discuss the adoption of Ukrainian children into Russian families.”

Coincidence? Maybe June is the big show?

Malinda 🇺🇸🇺🇦🇵🇱🇨🇦🇮🇹🇦🇺🇬🇧🇬🇪🇩🇪🇸🇪 @TreasChest

“NATO is preparing the largest aviation exercises in its history

Air Defender 2023 will be held primarily in Germany, with forward operating locations in the Czech Republic, Estonia, and Latvia, June 12-23. The purpose of the exercises will be to test the ability to quickly deploy and use the aviation of NATO countries.

In addition to Germany and the USA, 22 allied countries will take part in the exercises. About 220 aircraft of 23 types are planned to be used. This makes Air Defender 2023 the largest air force deployment exercise since NATO was founded in 1949.“

🇺🇦 Jim Hacker DAA, @RayFlo_135 Replying to @TreasChest

“Not the biggest in NATO history, Reforger exercises had more aircraft involved. Many hundreds of fighters, tankers, bombers , transports as well as civilian airliners crossing the Atlantic to reinforce NATO for the practice mobilization war games during the Cold War.”

(But still, this seems potentially significant, for deterring or defeating potential Russian escalation over the Ukrainian counteroffensive)
