University System of Georgia enrollment still on decline

Student enrollment is continuing to decline at the University System of Georgia.

Overall enrollment for the spring semester at the system’s 26 institutions fell to 311,484, down 0.9% from last spring, Angela Bell, the system’s vice chancellor of research and policy analysis, told members of the Board of Regents Tuesday.

The system’s enrollment grew steadily from 2014 through 2021, Bell said during the regents April meeting on the campus of the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega. But enrollment has declined during the last couple of years to the point where it stands only about 500 students above 2019, she said.

The enrollment drop in Georgia is part of a national trend researchers say reflects low unemployment, financial uncertainty, and the lingering effects of the pandemic.

Now spread this through every state's university system. Parents and students are deciding there are alternatives to four year universities from which your main result is debt.

Also, note this sentence in the article:

"The enrollment of white students has declined during the last five years to 45% of the overall student population."

Not just one state. Lots are declinging.

Even the highly advanced socialist utopian paradise state of Newsom’s California is punishing any college that has low enrollment by taking money from them and diverting it to others. At least the Left is consistent——consistently bad.

“The California State University system is putting campuses on notice: Enroll more students or lose money.” If you deviate from Newsom’s plan, you will suffer punishment.

If I could do it all over again, I’d go to UGA. My mom went there and now I kick myself for going somewhere else.

I wonder if foreign students are not coming to US universities as much as before?

My son spent a couple hundred thousand 1990’s dollars on his degree and is still paying off his student loan nearing 20+ years later.

He’s doing well but the degree is absolutely worthless. I’ve got it hanging on my wall. He would probably throw it away if he could.

“If I could do it all over again, I’d go to UGA”

A UGA degree is actually a good value for the dollars spent. The professors are still pretty moderate with several actually openly conservative. (Except for the women’s studies department—avoid those like the plague).

UGA still prides themselves for adhering to free speech principles but do not make a big deal of it since it is simply a value that has always been a part of the university. I don’t think the cost of a law degree there (in dollars) has increased in the past 15 years. It’s tuition fee is still less that $20,000 for a full-time student. Compared to a school such as Stanford which is about $60,000, that’s an amazing feat!

UGA Law ranks in the top 25 or so in law schools so it is a good deal. I don’t mean to be an advertisement for the school, it’s just that I’m a Georgia resident and proud of the University that has contributed so much to the state. All without going totally “woke”.
